You don't need 13 shows to find the right Dorothy
Paace

Having 13 shows to find the right Dorothy is a farce. Lloyd Webber and the other theatre producer with all their years of experience should be able to pick the person to play Dorothy after one or at the most two auditions.
Whats with singing all these pop and sexy songs

Dorothy is supposed to be a 12 yr old farm girl and all you need is someone to play this part convincingly like Judy Garland.
Judy was 16 when she played the part and even then had wear tight bandages around her bosom to hide her boobs.

Then again all the BBC are interested in is dragging out a show for 13 tedious weeks when it should be concluded in three.

No-one's forcing you to watch it you know!

It's light entertainment tv. It's not an audition. We've watched enough of these kinds of shows to work that out, surely?

ALW and Co. already know which 2 or 3 girls would be best at the part. Their job is to make sure the public vote for someone suitable, by placing these girls in the best possible light. The pop singing is irrelevant, it's just to entertain people on a Saturday night.

Thanks Laurie, the whole 13 weeks is irrelevant. When I go to the show all I want to see from a Dorothy is someone who can a 12 yr old convincingly.

The purpose of the 13 weeks is to fill a slot in the Saturday night tv schedules and drum up ticket sales. There are quite a few in the line up who look very young - Emilie, Jessica, Danielle, Dani. And Andrew seems to like Danielle and Dani.

You don't need 13 shows to find the right Dorothy - Thats true, but only cos it was obvious since the audition, Jessica all the way!

That is actually pointless. Reason being, us - the British public - are the ones who get to chose the winner, not Andrew Lloyd Webber so yeah... that comment was a bit of a farce to be fair and if you don't like the show, don't watch it, simple as really. And if you're not watching it, or don't care about it, why start a thread..? I'm actually really looking forward to these 13 weeks

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed this show's predecessors and I'm looking forward to this one - perhaps even more so, since I don't yet have an absolute favourite, unlike the previous series.

And that's the point, isn't it? It has far less to do with finding the right person to play Dorothy and more to do with filling the Saturday night light entertainment slot, drumming up ticket sales and, incidentally but importantly, finding some raw new talent.

The only thing with which I'm in total agreement with the OP is the choice of rubbishy pop songs rather than songs from the musicals. It's not as if there are so few to choose from!

I completely agree. We're looking for a West End actress for crying out loud not a Pop Star! So bring on those musical numbers PLEASE! It is fun to watch though, seeing what a future West End actress can do with an 'ordinary' song

It is as much about Saturday night entertainment for the BBC mass audience as finding the right Dorothy.

I suspect the idea of the pop songs is to draw in the "youth" audience.

Im apart of the "youth" audience and i would love it if they did musical theatre... then again... i LOVE musical theatre, but surely everyone does if they're watching the show..?

You have a point (although it's probably more true for Pop Idol and the X Factor, where a different person wins from the obvious stand-out from day 1); however...

I don't get why you're on this forum???

That they have: it is abundantly clear that The Chosen One was identified.

But format is as format does: they have a schedule to fill and a public to entertain.

You really believe that do you. Stepanie is the 'chosen' one, therefore Stephanie will win.

I don't think Chosen One is synonymous with Winner.

Just ask Jessie Buckley.

Anyone else think that Emilie is the spitting image of Bonnie langford :O I know she has a few nieces that look like her so wondered if she was one of them. When I saw her I thought oh bet they fix it for her to win if she is her niece...then she got knocked out..then surprise surprise...the "viewers" brought her back! Not that anyone would ever rig a phone vote lol...ok ok I'm just a cynic

Meant to say Jessica or Lauren to win
