ITV1 HD recordings encrypted?

I have just tried to transfer a recording from ITV1 HD to my USB drive, and noticed next to the file is a symbol of what looks like a disc with a red cross next to it and when I highlight it, it won't let me copy the file and transfer it to the USB. It only seems to do it with recordings from the ITV1 HD channel. All other recordings I am able to transfer fine.

Does this mean ITV have protected the channel so recordings can not be transferred from the hard drive? And is there anything I can do?

Thank you.

Yes - the BBC have set it so that you may copy a file once (although it still remains encrypted so you can only play it back on your own HDR). ITV haven't done this though and you can't copy a programme at all.

A neat way round it though is to record the programme in non-freesat mode. It'll be unencrypted and restriction free then.

Ah thank you. I will give that a try

Humm, not here's another question, I have not got the file on my computer, and its a .ts file, so I downloaded a ts file converter, and the program said 'file type not supported'!! I have now tried two different file converters and both wouldn't accept the file.

Does anyone know of any file converters I can use to convert the recording to either AVI, MPEG or any other common video type?

Thank you.

You can watch the file using VLC:
http://www.videolan.org/ (click download on the right).

It's a very good media player that'll play anything.

Thanks, but I already have a player to watch the recording, but I can't edit or upload it to many things which is why I would like to convert it to a more common file type.

If you just want to convert it TSmuxergui will do the trick. If you want to edit the file (eg remove adverts) the not free but excellent videoredo plus will do the job

Doesn't work for me like that. I had to use Graham's old trick of switching it off in non-Freesat mode with ITV1 HD already selected and then back on again. Only then could I shift a fresh trial recording to an external drive.
