- Jessica is absolutely terrible: everything that musical theatre should not be. She destroyed 'Rehab.' What next? Dani singing 'The Drugs Don't Work' while working the emotions of fear, resentment and excitement in at the same time?

-Sheila Hancock over-analyses songs. She finds emotions and moods that the songwriter didn't know were there. She could dissect 'Agadoo' like an A-Level student labouring over Shakespeare.

-Jennie scares me. She reminds me of Cilla and Bonnie Langford. And the one who sang Pink sounded like some pissed up secretary at the work Christmas do, giving it her all after downing a bottle of Lambrini. About as classy as a deep fried Mars bar.

Fantastic. Agree completely on both counts!

Great songwriters available like Gershwin, Berlin, Novello, Rodgers & Hammerstein and we get Pixie Lott, Pink and the god awful Saturdays!

and...

A lot of people vote for the song and therefore some of those girls have no chance.
Some of the girls were seriously hampered by the songs they were given, I thought it was very unfair because it makes such a huge difference to how they and their voices come across.

As this is a contest to test stage musical abilities, there's no excuse for giving them carp modern pop which requires massive studio post-production input

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already ... but .... the dubbing during the group songs was really really bad last night .... if they have to mime, they should at least teach them to mime properly ....

Yep, totally agree.

I fail to see how the phrase 'you took a contempary song and turned it into musical theatre' can ever, under any circumstances be considered a compliment.

It is not.

(I did find the opening shot of Charl/Sheila and the other chappie all sat in a row clapping along just a smidge out of synch quite amusing though in a 'nurse, time for the meds kind of way)

I love the way Pixie Lott is considered to be 'rock' (which seems to be a shorthand for shouty and pointy). They wouldn't know 'rock' if it came and tapped them on their leatherette covered shoulder.

This funny article sums up just how far the BBC has lost it by making Over The Rainbow ... what next 'The Real Cat on a Hot Tin Roof!'

Brilliant on all three points!

Hope to see you on this thread every week, if you can come up with lines like that!

I intend to steal your "post- Lambrini " line and pass it off as my own!

I thought Jessica's rendition of the song rehab was hillarious.

Anyway I wondering if Andrew will ever like a performence, he looks so angry, when ever the camera goes to him,

Also Emily was so out of tune it hurt my ears, and I loved the song she was singing, she totaly ruined it though.

I've been trying to describe my impression of it but I had to give up. I think that "hilarious" is more appropriate than "destructive" - it was such a ludicrous song to set without the accompanying make-over, it didn't deserve more respectful treatment. I thought that Jessica did an... interesting job

I made a note that only Stephanie, Sophie and Jenny had decent material and some contestants were given dross to cope with.

Considering that fact that she looked totally out of her tree for most of it, She clearly gave a good impression of someone refusing Rehab!

I liked the song Danielle was singing. I hated Stephanie's song. So I don't really agree.

Yes Jessica did an interesting job, I was laughing my head off.

I keep asking why they give the contestants pop/rock songs to sing? They're not auditioning to become pop stars (though secretly, some of 'em probably are!!); they're auditioning to do musical theatre, so why don't they give 'em musical theatre songs to tra-la-la out? Simples eh?

That WAS Jenny - I think you must mean Emilie as the Bonnie Langford clone. And I completely agree with both points.

The only one I like and can actually see as Dorothy, is Sophie.

Am I alone in this?

Oops, hang on. I haven't seen the last prog. Is she still in?

These shows always make me feel like a cynical old moo! But I keep on watching. The only decent one who I think could be Dorothy is Sophie - the rest are just vying for attention and are all blatantly desperate to showcase themselves. Sophie seems quiet, polite, focused and determined. Deary me. And to think I'm older than most of the contestants now is a bit scary. I'm only 20 and it's hard to believe most of them are 17/18!

But ladies and gentleman, never fear, as for I have tickets to see the live show and recorded results show next Saturday so I can come back with even more cynicism and tales to tell!
