Hi

I've done a search for this and not found anything about it...and it might be absolutely nothing at all....

...but, did anyone notice - when the Doctor was trapped in the car door by his tie, and he was trying to persuade Amy to let him go - as he spoke to her, and as he was convincing her, a funny beam of blue light seemed to spread across the screen, from the Doctor towards Amy...then it faded back, and she decided to trust him. you can see in on iPlayer...from 34m 25s, accompanied by a lift in the music.

I thought at first it was some sort of a lens flare or trick of the light - but there doesn't seem to be a significant enough light source behind the Doctor to account for it...and it doesn' t happen any other time, even in shots from the same angle.

I know...it's new Who, and I'm probably looking too deeply...but does anyone have any thoughts? Have I spotted something significant...or is it a trick of the light??

They played that bit in the confidential and commented on how it was shot in slight slow motion... but they totally neglected to mention the blue light, which annoyed me!

It's the classic slow motion blue light phenomenon.

I assumed it was leading into a scene transition of some sort, and was a little surprised when it just receded. If it meant anything special then I'm sure we'll find out later in the series. That episode wasn't exactly shy about establishing an arc.

I saw it too, just thought it was a flaw in the film

It was meant to be a fairytale moment in which Amy had to choose which path to take - Moff explains.

Funny I was watching Fringe before watching DW today...in the show random flashes of blue lights always occur before something bad happens...ergo I was expecting something to randomly blow up! Maybe there's a similar foreshadowing plot device in the works for DW...this is Moffat writing it after all so maybe there is a payoff...or maybe it was an accident during filming and the post-production team was just drunk or something when they were given that scene

It was a beautiful cinematic effect I reckon, it was like a "glow" of trust between the two characters. I loved it.

It was maybe meant to add atmosphere and a fairy tale like feeling to the scene but it just reminded me I was sat there watching a tv prog, esp when my daughter asked 'what is that blue light there for?'

It was weird and drew far too much attention to itself to not be a conscious decision from Moffat et al.

What was the blue light that shot out of the crack in the wall?

hi guys i just took it for a lens flare ala star trek 2009 (movie) and thought it was in keeping with the new style of the show as they also had the frame advancing scene in that segment of the show!

It was lens flare, a nice visual trick, nothing more than that I'd wager.

Nah!! nothing is that simple in Dr. Who.

Remember he was still regenerating when he held her hand. I think he has passed on something special to her. Along the Doctor-Donna theme in my opinion - time will tell.

It did seem to be sonic screwdriver blue and a significant moment of getting her to trust him.

Notice the metaphor with Adam & Eve in Genesis, Eve got Adam to trust her over an apple (ok and led astray).

I saw it too, and reckoned it was something significant. I thought it was to highlight a significant point in time - kind of like Donna's choice between left and right - where Amy's decision at that moment would be significant in future (maybe just to Amy, maybe to the rest of the world) and the blue light was a fairytale style representation of the significance.

(like the blue light in Charmed when the Power of 3 in sealed/reconstituted in the series 1 and 4 openers respectively, or Jean Grey's eyes changing to signify a shift from Jean to Phoenix in Xmen 3)

I don't think it meant anything aside from adding some flair (lol or flare) to the shot. He wasn't passing energy onto her or anything, I don't reckon. It's interesting to say the least. Loved her trapping him in the car door!
