Dorothy is supposed to be 12 years old

According to Wikipedia she is supposed to be a 12 year old farm girl..On that basis should'nt they be looking for a younger girl to play the part.. I did'nt know she was so young

Also there should be no sexualisation of these girls.

Bright red lipstick and low cut dresses really...

I thought the gingham dressed with chiffon to show off their boobs was horrendous. Yes.. in the film Dorothy was 12.. I think she was 10 in the book. Judy Garland was 16 when she played her but she was only 4ft 11 so the size of a child really. They also taped down her boobs. Some of the girls in the final 11 look way too old. They could get away with someone older playing the part if they stopped trying to tart them up so much

I'm 19 but I could passfor 12, although most of the time I would be quite offended by it!

If they were using 12 year old girls to play Dorothy, they'd need to pick 3 like they did with the Olivers last year, but I think younger girls do have an advantage as Dorothy's a young girl. I loved Tasheka's voice, but the story of Dorothy is not that of a 28 year old mother, you'd have to be an incredible actress to get round that. I had similar doubts about Steph Fearon.

I hope Stephanie Davis wins - she's young, but has a lot of character and should be able to handle this!

BTW Dorothy definitely shouldn't be sexualised. Luckily for me, I don't have full sight so didn't notice tha.t the girls' boobs were hanging out but that's not how I imagine Dorothy!

After lasts night show & the 'Gingham dresses' I was wondering if the producers of the show thought dorothy grew up in a Brothel rather than a on farm.

Well after that performance (Sun Night) I agree. Looks like an audition for girls aloud.

the dressess are bodice like but are little more than boobtubes and wardrobe dept have got round it by putting sheer netting above the boobs to cover the cleavage but its still there - having said that most of the girls don't have a cleavage.

Its not just the dresses or appearance. Dorothy ahould have an innocence and naivety. Surely that is essential to thwe whole story??

Agree, LLoyd Webber and the BBC have lost the plot with this show . We'll have a further 12 weeks of the contestants belting out sexy pop songs which are totally irrelevant to whats required for Dorothy.

To be fair it's not like they had the plot for the three previous shows.

Dorothy is supposed to be 12 years old .. and Maria was supposed to be a nun; it still didn't stop some of the Marias being dressed up as if they were from Slappers R Us at times! It's just the nature of TV these days ..

All of them look way too old. There is nobody there who could realistically pass for 12 or 10 years old. Why they would choose to put someone like Amy through to the final ten/eleven, when she looks way older even than her years and far too sexy (though she is a good singer) is anybody's guess.

Agree with what others have said above about the sexualisation of the show through the type of dress and the songs chosen. I'm mystified as to why they put Amy through for this part. It seems wrong that someone whose image and career is as a sex pin-up should be considered for the part of a young girl in a musical. Agree she has a good voice, though.

Theres flying monkeys and witches and a talking tinman, walking scarecrow.......
If we can believe and accept these things in the show thinking a 22 year old is 12 should be a piece of cake.

None of that bunch look innocent and naive to me!

I don't know why they don't plat the girl's hair to look like Dorothy. The dresses seem a bit pointless without the hair done as well. I wondered if that was why Amy didn't get the votes. There is also a slight disadvantage with some of the colours. Lauren is lucky to be wearing pink which makes her seem to look younger in my opinion.

Trust me, the colours the contestants wear is carefully chosen. It is not random.

The dresses were a tad revealing, but of course it has done its job of getting all us grubby ole men staring at the screens, and drooling...
