Shallow much?

Do you have to find an actor sexy to be able to appreciate them in a role?

Thought he was brilliant. His age actually benefits him; he's definately a really energetic doctor, but I wasn't disliking how young he was. It's a right good balance and it just really makes me excited to see more. I knew he'd be good! Moff wanted someone middle aged and instead hired Matt. Obviously his vision of the Doctor had to be changed, which he wouldn't have done lightly. I recon there's much more to see; I can't wait to see the dark side of this doctor; Matt has already said he's less tolerant than DT.
DT was awesome though and he'll never be forgotten, just like Tom Baker wasn't.

It's a great performance from word go. Eccleston gave us that too in 'Rose', though I thought Tennant was all over the place for a while (RTD's mad-as-a-box-of-frogs scripts for 'The Christmas Invasion' and 'New Earth' didn't help matters...).

Matt is instantly the Doctor. That's obviously what Moffat was looking for. It's what we as viewers are looking for.

Totally agree about the layers - lots more to see. I too was in the 'give the guy a chance camp' and loved David Tennant in the role, best ever for me. I have a feeling that Matt is going to blow the others out of the water.

I think Matt will be the Tom Baker of this updated reincarnation of Doctor Who.

Tom Baker was, I think, the most popular of the Dr Who from the previous stint. He also spent the most time in the role (7 years I believe).

I can see Matt Smith being the most popular Dr for this generation and, if he wants, spend 4,5,6 or more years in the role.

I've said this before, but his kooky, eccentricity is very similar to the way Tom Baker played the role.

a somewhat ironic comment, coming as it does from someone with a boiled potato for a brain.

I thought Matt did an awesome job, right from the get go. By the end of the food scene in the kitchen I was fully accepting of him as the Dr (BTW, I didn't feel it went on too long, I thought it was necessary to show the foundations of their relationship that left Amy waiting for him for 12 years).

His comic timing is spot on, there were loads of funny lines that were all delivered beautifully and he does seem to have many layers, and that brilliantly set up scene, with the previous Dr's and monsters montage, which he stepped though, in outfit, to deliver 'Hello, I'm the Dr' (obviously to us as much as the giant eyeball) I just thought 'yes Sir, you really are'

Oh, and by the end I was finding him really quite attractive, in an off beam, quirky way, whatever it was he was doing it was working for me

Totally agree with all of this! ^^^

I loved the cooking scene. Matt Smith was very funny, especially the face he pulled after spitting out the bacon and banging his fork up and down on the table. His comic delivery is excellent, slightly sarcastic/serious and deadpan, like when he was warning Annette Crosbie away from Patrick Moore. From the start he dominated the other actors in terms of screen presence. I often found myself thinking how very attractive he was. The childlike enthusiasm, naivety and innocence were cute as hell.

Can I allow myself some time of smugness? I knew he'd be good.

He's got a wonderful eccentricity and conveys a real depth of character - he actually took me back to feeling about the Doctor like I did in the Jon Pertwee days (he was 'my' Doctor). It's like the Doctors real again.

Was it Stephen Moffat that said although he looks young you can believe he's lived a long time?

Really looking forward to the rest of the series.

Yeah I loved that there was that little bit of a carry-over, as if to ease us into the new Doctor. The Doctor will always be an eccentric character and I think Matt pulled that off very well. Didn't think much of the story line, though.

I do find Matt rather attractive too, in that quirky sort of way...is this wrong??

11th Doctor is like some 1930s public school boy from Eton who loves adventure.

Silently confident but states when others state the bleeding obvious. (the alien behind the door quip which some might see as annoyance, but I saw as a "matter of fact Dr")...

He says it as he sees it. For many he is the fun older/younger brother who you see is all action, but then disapear for awhile......

I was in the wait and see camp until until his first introduction at the end of DTs run - then i thought OMG i hate him!! He seemed too hammy and elastic faced and after DTs emotional demise it jarred really badly with me.

Saturday though i loved everything about him and was totally blown away. I'd go so far as to say that after one episode hes surpassed DT and CE for me and i find that astonishing as i adored both of them. The first time i've ever watched the show three times in quick succession and each time i sat with a huge grin on my face thinking 'this guy is bloody awesome'.

Dare I say it. I ''THINK'' he will prove more popular than David Tennent in the long run.

Really impressive debut by Matt Smith, imv.

I found the initial eating/spitting out food thing a bit overdone, but it's what the script required.

The rest of the episode he was simply fantastic

I thought Matt was rather good in Episode one, I have high hopes for the season, I think he has established his character quite well.

Time will tell.

Yeah, I liked the mini-arc through the episode - starting out acting as a demanding child, then being somewhat helpless and lost figuring out how he was going to save the world and being stopped dead in his tracks by a fake policewoman, to being the authoritative protector of Earth in complete control of the situation, truly inheriting the mantle of the Doctor.

He doesn't have the smugness of Tenth, and always seems to have a slight smile about his face. I especially like the careful monitoring of people's eyes when he says mad things to them, always gauging their reactions. He seems like he's going to be much more in touch with people, instead of above them like the Tenth.

I also found it interesting that he resorted to physically grabbing Rory by his collar in very short time. He looks like an unassuming student, but he's got a temper, this boy.

Well, if it is, I'm in the wrong as well, started to find him strangely attractive as the episode progressed. I was definately in the 'give him a chance' camp, was a bit nervous when I saw his outfit, had visions of the Dr being slightly wimpy in character and maybe being played a bit too young, but completely wrong there, and by the time he stepped out in full costume I was totally sold on the look, already sold on Matt's take on the Dr.

I'm 90% sold on Amy as a companion, probably 100% by the end of next Saturday night's episode, I think I only lack the 10% because I was so capitvated by Matt's starring turn.

Just like to add my comments to the chorus of praise for Matt Smith.

I thought he was excellent. It took me about two minutes for me to feel comfortable with him in the role.

Inspired casting from Stephen Moffat. I totally get what he meant by the "...it has to be Matt" comment.

I hope Matt Smith gets to see these comments. There are only a few nagative comments on any forums I've looked at, it's about 99% positive.

Im not a hardcore Dr Who fan, but I think matt smith did a good job judging from the first episode.

I also liked Tennant in the role, and I thought Eccleston was ok. Tom Baker though is the Doctor, probably cos he's the one I grew up with.
