I'm just re-watching (and re-watching and re-watching) Sophie's song from last night to try and work out what it was that got such a bad reaction. And i have come to this conclusion...
a) The song choice is rubbish, i mean, there is no two ways about it.
b) The hair is terrible. Not in general, i think she looks quite pretty with her hair up. But for this kind of song. If you want someone to shine through and be more 'jolly' you don't put there hair up in a style that is reminiscent of my mothers wedding hair.
c) The dress. Same reasoning as the hair, she looks perfectly nice in it, but its just so wrong for the song. Its like Danielle's last week, she looks like a air hostess (nothing wrong with that btw, just wrong for the song)
d) The song is not only a rubbish choice but its far far far far too low for her voice, which it why at times you can't hear her, its not her fault, its just too low in her register, it is in most peoples.
So i think they are the main reasons it got such bad reception. Its not a bad performance, its just not amazing. I think there is a moment that is rather good though....

starting at about 2:50 to about 4:03 when there is a key change, its really well sung! And hard to do without cracking.
thats what i think anyways
Oh also, i asked my friend who went to the recording yesterday who she thought was the nicest girl, like genuinely came across nice off and on camera, and she said Sophie

Apparently she smiled and waved at them and was just really sweet
