If she wasn't right for the role why the hell was she even in the final ten, over the other ten girls?

I personally think that since being on the show, Amy has been one of the (only) girls to put in consistantly good performances, and no she wasn't Dororthy, it was evident, but she was a talented singer and a talented actress who deserved to stay over the likes of Dani, Emily etc.

Her exit song was the best I've heard on one of these shows, and I hope her past career doesn't prevent her getting some acting/singing work, because from what we've seen on the show, she's a beautiful girl both inside and out, who deserves success.

I don't think Amy was screwed over. She was lucky to get as far as she did (given she was never going to look like a suitable Dorothy).

The program will have done her more good than harm though as I'm sure her talent has been noticed and she'll be signed up for some show or other. And good luck to her.

I think it was the wildcards who were screwed over, as perhaps any one of them who looked like a more realistic Dorothy should have been put through automatically to begin with.

I agree that she was never going to look like Dorothy but neither does Steph and tonight I thought Amy was better in the sing off but as Sid said at least she had a chance to show her talent and was noticed by Andrew even if he thought she was perfect for another show.

I don't think she was screwed over. I think both she and the programme makers knew all along that she was never going to be Dorothy but that, in the short time that she would be there, (for them) she would add something to the show and (for her) she would get something from the show. Job done on both sides.

Maybe screwed over is a bit OTT, but I do think it was unfair on her to be put through thinking she was in with a chance when she enver was.

I think it's becoming increasingly clear on this type of show that there are different types of contestant. ALW and the panel have 11 to choose from at the beginning so they can afford to put one or two through that don't stand a chance of making it for the role in question but are perhaps talented enough to transfer that talent to other shows.

On each series I would say that there are 2 or 3 that are the panel's favourites for the role in question, there are maybe 3 or 4 others that could develop and give the chosen few a run for their money, there may be 1 or 2 put through as cannon fodder (obviously not going to appeal publicly, not too talented, not that great a look for the role - probable for an early bottom 2 place and can be kicked off when necessary when a favoured contestant is a shock bottom 2 entry) and then another 1 or 2 that are never going to be right for this particular role in a million years but have quite a lot of talent and the panel think it's worth sacrificing a place or two (as I said, they have 11!) to give these girls a bit of exposure. I think both Steph and Amy may well fall into that last category.

For whatever reason, all the finalists in these shows seem to do well. For all we know ALW has already sent her to see about something else.

I doubt very much she expected to be Dorothy, she said tonight that it had done the job for her in proving that she was a credible singer and actress.

Alos, ALW has made a point of repeatedly saying that all the contestants are very talented. Which has to be worth something in the jobs market.

I agree with you and agree with Andrew that she aould be perfect for Legally Blonde! I bet all of these girls will get jobs like all the Nancys and all the Marias! Amy did a beautiful Over The Rainbow exit song!

I wonder if like with the taking off of the Joseph coats, the next one to go will be the girl who took Dorothy's shoes from her!!!!

Like the OP I wondered why she was put into the final 10 of a show for a role she was completely unsuitable for. But then again, to answer my own question, it's clearly because she was a bit different to the breathless 'this is all I've ever done' innocents that make up the rest of the contenders. I think the producers knew she'd be a controversial choice, which is no bad thing when it comes to stirring up the GBP.

Was she 'screwed over'? Absolutely not. She sang consistently well, came across as a likeable person behind the glamour model veneer and has gained exposure to millions of viewers.

Her chances of pursuing a career in musical theatre have improved a thousandfold as a result of showing off her talents the show and, with the right role, I believe she'd be very successful. I wish her all the best

Funnily enough that is exactly what my daughter thought she would be a good Alice in Wonderland!

The thing with Alice is she does have a bit of attitude (although quite young, and Amy looking a few years older than she does) so maybe a modern Tim Burton/AlW collaboration?

I think it was fair Amy went ,she was lucky enough to be chosen for the final 10,and showcase herself,but never a Dorothy.
ALW was quite right when he said he could see her in Legally Blonde, and if there's a touring production I'm sure she'll be in it.
We go to musical theatre regularly in Birmingham's Theatreland,which is fantastic I must add ,and they are always Cameron Mackintosh or Bill Kenwright productions,and so many past contestants have appeared, thanks to them showcasing their talents on these shows.
Amy was very different, but she has a voice and there is a role for her ,I should imagine that is why she was put through, the diversity,only one can be Dorothy and they're all excellent ,but when you think of all the different shows in the West End, and touring productions, just look at the talent they have this year.

I couldn't understand why she was put through, unless it started as a challenge..a kind of "we will surprise the public with how we can change any girl" type of story line. I mean, when we first saw Amy, with her deep orange fake-tan, she looked completely inappropriate. She did change, but still looked older than her years..though her bio states 22, she appeared more like late 20's, or even early 30's to me ? That's not being ageist, there are many roles where her more experienced look would be an advantage. Amy does have talent, but she was just completely wrong for this particular role.

I agree with the OP. I thought she was absolutely fantastic - brilliant voice. However, she was not suited to Dorothy. Why, then, was she put through originally I do not know.

She would make a fab Elle in Legally Blonde though. I wish her well - very talented. I personally thought she was much better than half of the others.

There's Probably a few more categories too. This time there were at least 3 rejected top 20 candidates more suited to being Dorothy than Amy who happened to look like people who went through. I wouldn't be at all surprised if choices had to be made not to have some people so as not to confuse things for the top 5. Amy may have gone through as the next best singer.She also got them a bit of media coverage.

The nonsensical suggestion by ALW that she could be in, or even the next Elle in, Legally, followed because they had put her through with no chance and she had inevitably gone early despite doing a pretty good job. We saw nothing to suggest she has the comedy or acting skills required for Elle or that the US producers who are very protective of Legally are suddenly going to take anyone who is blonde and can sing a bit. Thats ALW talking Amy up using an example that he knows nothing about apart from an assumption its simpler than what he does when in fact its better written. If I was producing Legally I would think it insulting - rather like suggesting Jodie could play Christine in Love Never Dies. Amy's probably going to do well out of it in something like Grease if she can dance and she can then show if she can act - she won't be starting in Legally though.

As you say too, someone has to be there to go early to allow for good people making a slow start or getting it wrong. Arguably there's too few weak people there and too many of each of the main types on offer. so, after the 2-4 early leavers are gone, it may turn out more random than ALW expects.

I love Amy's voice. She did look almost relieved to be going out of the competition. She has a softer powerful voice that she didn't appear to have to strain to get the high notes unlike some of the other contestants.
I wonder if she will be one that Andrew will be able to place in another show.

Francesca Jackson was outstanding on IDA, and was criticised for being semi-professional. She was voted out quite early, but has been in work ever since and is currently starring in Dreamboats & Petticoats.

I reckon similar things will happen for Amy.

It was even more unfair on talented girls who looked the part who didn't get that far.

We all know the score with these shows - ALW puts through some expendable girls so that he retains more power over who is cast - though this doesn't always work (IDA). Unfortunately for AMy she was one of these, but at least she got on the shwo and I'm sure she will get something from this.

This is probably completely unfair but I think she is a fame hunter.......not saying she couldnt sing because she could but she is 'a former glamour model' and 'ex girlfriend of a soap actor' she is ideal tabloid fodder and got some more exposure from this all be it short outing on a reality TV show.......job done I would say.

If she wanted to be taken more seriously as Dorothy she should have toned down the glamour look which is what she needed to do for me to take her seriously.

You also don't know the facts of what went on around the show - the people at over the rainbow knew she would be tabloid fodder I'm sure. Amy was not allowed to tone down the glamour look which included not being allowed to change her hair colour.
