First and foremost, both VM and BTV and provide an easy to use and fully functional interface for controlling on demand content, and both providers can maintain the Quality of Service (QoS) required for instant viewing without programme interuptions for 'buffering', unlike others (e.g. Sky).

Both provide a replay service for broadcast TV: BT has BBC, ITV, CH4 and Five; VM provides Virgin replay but not Five. BT also provides ESPN replay if you have any BTV subscription.

Both offer Picture Box, Bollywood, Pay-per-view movies and music videos.

VM has a £7 Replay Choice option which provides programming from all the other channels you mention. BTV has a similar list, as part of its basic replay service, of about 20 channels which supply its additional on demand TV: CBS, Warner, History, Nat Geo, Discovery, TV Box, Sony Entertainment, Sony Retro, MTV, E!, HBO, Comedy Central, TX,Chanimal, Battelfield, Vision Sports...

BTV also has exclusive rights to Premier League on-demand. VM has a lot more HD on demand compared to BT at present.

Hi

I've got BTVision.
It only has the Freeview channels
and on demand stuff from
BBC
ITV
4
Five
Sony
Warner Bros Tv
Comedy Central
HBO
Slected shows from All the major US Networks
History Channel
National Geographic
and a few others......

Basically stick with Virgin if you've already got it (I'd get it if I could), Pound for Pound, your getting more for your ££££.

Ooh Yeah, forgot about this (the reason I got BTV in the 1st place)

If Premier League football is your thing, you don't mind not watching the game live (the on demand is 5 hours after the game finishes), and you don't mind missing out on the games that Sky show as BTV don't have the rights to those (yet, different thread for that heated debate)

It's £5 or part of a bundle for £14

Are you being serious?

I'm considered to be a terminally football-mad person by those who know me. And I agree with them. But in 11 months (Just one miserable month to go) of having BTV, I've NEVER watched a game on demand and can't imagine why anyone would want to. You can just record Match of the Day instead and cut out the boring bits.

In order to answer the OP's question properly you need to consider not only who provides the content but more importantly how much content is available and for how long.

BTV is chock full of 2nd rate American TV which hangs around for ever. Virgin is much more balanced in it's UK/USA split and content is updated far more often.

As a BTV customer who will soon be returning to VM, my advice would be...

"There's nothing to see here, walk on by!"

Cheerz for all the advice i thought btv did fox content now i thought i read...simpsons/south park would be great and LIVING?

Virgin used to offer near live football back in the Setanta days but that was axe when the channel died

I dont think i would switch from virgin as thier internet is just too quick in compairson to BT although thier landline service is A HELL OF A LOT CHEAPER just a moment of madness

How can you be proper football fan if you dont want to ever watch a whole football match ?. I'm not the world best fan (I like F1 better) but even I watch some of them.

The Premiership VOD service is invaluable to me and is NOT offered on any other platform. This is the only way to watch full 3pm kick off matches on your TV. Alternatively - you can watch highlights instead - not just a 5 minute recap

As for "chock full" of yank TV - even if you're correct - who really cares ????, it's VOD - you can watch whatever you like

I do want to watch a whole football match - Live! But the number of these that are of a high quality and relivant to BTV viewers is about to halve. We live in a connected society. The days of 'The Likely Lads' being able to last all day without knowing a result are long gone. Who wants to sit through the entire 90 mins of a game when you know the score in advance? I don't and I seriously doubt many others would either.

As you say, it is VOD. But as I said earlier, it's about the choice that is provided. I watched what interested me in my first month or so on BTV. These days I check regularly (almost always in vain) to see if there is anything new of interest, but there isn't and those original programmes are still there.

That was never the case with VM VOD. Which is partly why I'm returning to them. The other reasons being the availability of more live football, better more reliable broadband, better STB and lower prices. A no-brainer really.

A terminally football-mad person probably ??

I do and have done many times. I hear about great matches from my friends, in the news and in the papers - especially goal fests and I can usually go home and actually watch the match.

I'm pleased for you and shocked at the same time.

I'll be showing your post to some others as living proof that my condition isn't as bad as they think!
