Poor ratings

The Saturday show scored 5.5million which is decent if not spectacular, but the Sunday results got just 3.7million-hoping that is to do with the fact it was Easter rather than some sort of terminal decline.

I would be annoyed if the show got cancelled after this series it always produces fantastic singers.

Only 5.5 million ?..I find that difficult to believe coming straight after Doctor Who ?

I'm guessing some ppl like myself recorded it, it's impossible to tell a programme's rating these days with a lot of people v+ or sky plus it and another lot watching on iplayer

I know that makes the ratings even worse . Dr Who got around 8million

True, but the lower the ratings are on TV then the lower the amount of people watching on these recorded media will probably be.

think it is overkill my parents didn't watch and they watch joseph and IDA but they just werent up for this one. I also think that if you are not doing the result show live, as per X Factor then it is senseless to leave results to Sunday.

Some people don't care about the results show - I find out about the results online or in the paper or whatever. Results shows are always drawn out and boring.

I watched the main show on Saturday night though.

That's probably true. I didn't watch Doctor Who or OTR live, but I was expecting higher viewing figures for both programmes. Nearly everyone I know was going to watch the new Doctor Who, so I was expecting figures of 10/11 million, with OTR dropping to 8/9 million.
Just shows how our viewing habits have changed with Sky/Virgin plus and catch-up.

No, if it was ITV it would be exciled to late night or ITV2 for the rest of its run, but the BBC will stick with it regardless. Its early days yet, I think it will build as the weeks. Besides, 5 million+ isn't that bad. As for the results show, again I think this will build as we start to get to know the girls and people start to care more who goes.

Not necessarily. We NEVER watch anything live these days as we Sky+ everything. In reality we watch MORE programmes since we got Sky+ but we wouldn't count in the ratings.

The whole thing is arbitory though. It is not based on what everyone watches just what a group of viewers watch.

True, but a lot rides on ratings unfortunatelywhoever its based on. Not that I think the main show is bad really-it's similar to other series of the show so it's hardly surprising-but the result show should be able to maintain that figure. My worry is slipping figures will spell the end after this series comes to a close.

To be honest, I had no idea it was on. I must have missed all the adverts for it or something, but I'll be watching next week now I know about it.

I think the worst decision was putting the first show on on a friday!

You'd think the BBC would have learned their lesson after putting the first two episodes of Strictly on a Friday which ended up with lower ratings. Also, 'Your Country Needs You' flopped in the Friday night slot as well.

The results show is on too early. They should swap the order and have it on after Antiques road show and not before.

5.5m + 3.7m = 9.2m,that's not bad ratings.

Started off well enough but I find most of the Finalists deeply annoying.

You can't go by ratings because it may not be expected to get high ratings.
Ratings get measured in relation to the time slot. For example it's assumed that more people would sit down and watch TV at 8pm than would on at 6pm because you have people coming home, sitting down to their evening meals etc.
Years ago Bruce Forsyth said he was unhappy at the slot Play Your Cards Right was getting. It had always been between 7pm and 9pm but they decided to move it to 5pm and the ratings plummeted. he said how can you expect the show to get the same ratings as an 7:30 Sunday night if you put it on at 5pm on a Friday?
When they switched Family Fortunes from a night time slot to an afternoon slot the ratings were a disaster in comparrison.

If you look at other shows.

9pm BBC1

MILLION POUND BIKE RIDE: A SPORT RELIEF (THU 2100) 5.08
RICHARD HAMMOND'S INVISIBLE WORLDS (TUE 2100) 4.76
NEW TRICKS (MON 2101) 4.01

On at 8pm but two of the BBC's biggest shows

HOLBY CITY (TUE 2000) 6.01
LARK RISE TO CANDLEFORD (SUN 2000) 6.39

Jumping to ITV for the same week

ANT & DEC'S PUSH THE BUTTON (SAT 1929) 5.83
HARRY HILL'S TV BURP (SAT 1859) 6.69
THE BILL (THU 2102) 3.68
MARRIED SINGLE OTHER (MON 2100) 4.17

So an 5.5 for the show is about average figure. It;s also not far short of what And & Dec got
