I guess everyone has seen the series trailer, but anyway I guess I better put it in a spoiler, but when we see the

cyberman

does anyone know if it's one of RTD's type? I'm really really hoping that Moffat goes back to

Mondas!

The bit in the trailer where we see

the doctor, and a few others opening some massive stone gates with burning torches in their hands

made me wonder....

Plus apparently Matt Smith really likes

It's definitely a Cybusman in the trailer. Same costume they've used for the last few years.

Keeping the costume does not in itself make it a cybusman. They could still be Mondas Cybermen and just happen to have a similar taste in Heavy Metal, don't you know?

They looked at the alternate universe and pronounced it good!

It seems to me that the problem people have with the Cybermen is not so much the design but the stories in which they've appeared but then having rewatched "Revenge of..." and "Earthshock" again yesterday it occurred to me you really have to go back to Hartnell/Troughton to find good stories they appeared in - I've nothing against the new who stories really, especially AOG/D but in terms of them as a threat, I've always seen them as interchangeable with the Daleks but less interesting and since they've been superceded by The Borg in the replacement technology stakes it's difficult to see where their niche will lie outside of nostalgia value.

Well I for one hope it's a Mondas cyberperson! I don't see how Moffat can weave Cybus Industries into the plot without it being a rehash. Surely it would be 100x better to have the Dr land on Mondas in some distant future and discover the 'real' cybermen still there. The clip from the trailer seems to show the cyber-creature in some sort of cavern or cave system with Amy wielding a burning brand!

Or it could be a Cybusman and the Dr tells Amy the story of the Mondasian Cybermen leaving them to be next seasons' villains...

How would a cybusman be worked into the plot do you think?

There's already (another) rift in the universe that shouldn't ever be there - presumably behind it exists the void between this and the next...simples...

The Cybermen are a good idea in principle, but the
downside is that's it's difficult to make a race
of emotionless beings dramatically interesting. The
Daleks, Sontarans, etc. all have identifiable
emotionable behaviour which explains their
motivations. An interesting idea might to have
the Cybermen never speak-like the Weeping
Angels-and thus emphasise their inhumanity and
threatening nature.

Now that's an idea I could imagine working...only problem is, of course, the Silent Assassins are already here but then SM seems to like the idea of unseen/unheard threats absorbing everyday people/things as he has displayed in his episodes to date - the nanobots in TEC/TDD, the Clockwork Androids in TGITF, the weeping Angels in B and the shadows in SITL/TFOTD...who knows if he will effect a similar transition with the Cybermen?
