As the title implies, could anyone else see Amy playing Glinda?
Last night, in the results, even the way she was standing and her height, her hair, resembled Glinda imo. She's quite softly spoken too.

Glinda

Thoughts?...

I find it hard to picture Glinda without a pair of munchkins.

Agree .... Glinda in Over the Rainbow, or Wicked? Either would work.

i don't think she could pull off 'popular' in wicked, but as the dreamy, floaty good witch in WOO she would be great!

Too young for Glinda in Oz as the part doubles with Auntie Em. She also needs an operatic tone rather than pop.

Her voice is nowhere near strong enough for Glinda in Wicked! Shame though as she looks perfect!

Really? It didn't in the film, and I don't think most people would see the two as being similar age.

I was surprised that Billie Burke who played Glinda in the film was 55 in 1939! I always remember her as looking younger, not seen it for years though.

I doubt Amy has the comedy to do any of the big roles shes being suggested for.

She'd be better of in a smaller role to start, like Sarah larks Strawberry seller in Oliver(though I'm not comparing the 2, Sarahs a fantastic actress, no idea if amy is).

I was about to question how on earth Amy compares in height to Kristin Chenoweth, and what gave you the impression that she could be remotely funny.

Then I realised that you meant Glinda from the Wizard of Oz, and not the current Glinda in Wicked

I know they were referring to Oz not Wicked. but not all Glindas (or should we say Galindas to help ease the confusion) have the diminutive stature of Kristin Chenoweth. I saw a tall Glinda with a short Elphaba in London (CJ was Elphie, can't remember who Glinda was). IMO it didn't work but it does show that they aren't always going to cast with height a factor.

No, but they do in the stage version. Although this version might be different.

No, you didn't. Dianne Pilkington is about 5'4, Sarah is 5'2, Helen is 5'3. Annalene looks about 5'0 compared to Idina. London production has a casting ban on tall Glindas, it's in their ads. The tallest Glinda I think we have was Chloe, who was second cover at 5'5, but she never played opposite CJ.

You're probably thinking of Dianne Pilkington. In her heels she looks tall, but that's just because CJ is a pixie. I thought it looked ridiculous too when she was towering over CJ, but that's CJ's fault for being a midget

Edited to add: I don't know how tall Louise is though.

It's because when the Broadway production cast a taller actress, they had to spend over a million making a new bubble to fit her. CJ?

The current Glinda and Elphaba must both be quite short. Rachel was one of the shortest Nancies.

Cassidy Janson. She was Kerry Ellis's standby Elphie.

I was just trying to find out how tall Rachel is, heh. I'm going to see them on Saturday so I'll have to report back

I think she must be about 5ft2/5ft3 something like that. Both Sam and Niamh towered over her in their sing offs.

NO WAY! I was trying to find pictures of Louise Dearman so that I could compare her to someone and figure out that way how tall she is, and noticed a flyer... from when she was in panto in my local theatre! I have seen the new Glinda before! It's a revelation!

Sorry, but I did. I saw a Glinda who was taller than the Elphie she was playing opposite against. Someone simply commented on the fact that Glinda should be like Kristen Chenoweth. Now the ACTUAL height of them is largely irrelavent. As an audience member you don't have a tape measure and simply compare the two. So, CJ is tiny, but that just makes the Glinda appear tall even if she wouldn't be next to another Elphie.

It's relative. But I saw a Glinda who was taller than Elphie.

I'm glad they don't want a tall Glinda (yay for us tinies ) but as someone who is 5'0" I was delighted to see a little Elphie

A Glinda who is taller than the Elphaba is not a tall Glinda, it's a short Glinda who's less short than the Elphaba. There's a difference. That's all I was pointing out.

Although, to be pedantic, as you probably saw Dianne and she's 5'4, that probably makes it an average Glinda

Height of Glinda is relevant because the bubble is built for an actress who is 5'5 or less.

Ah, you see to me 5'4" IS tall But I see your point

Hmm. I suppose the height of the bar on the cherry picker for Defying Gravity must be adjustable. If it is supposed to be across their waist (which would allow for the most movement of the upper body) then if it is set for your regular size Elphie that would make it up towards chest level for a small one (but then again it would probably be dependent on leg length). Or you raise the height of the platform to make sure that the bar is waist height.

Edited to fix name error!

Louise Dearman is pretty short, looking at pictures (she was on the Michael ball tour with ben ) shes shorter than emma williams, who is quite tall for a stage actress, so thats not really helpful.
