Full article HERE

OK. It says that his 3 year deal is worth £600,000. How can he afford a £775,000 house ??? He has to pay for other stuff as well.

Hmm. He's not exactly being careful with the money is he ? XD

It's called a mortgage. He doesn't have to pay it out all at once you know.....

Think it's his own business how he spends his money in any case.

You can't get much for your money these days it has to be said. My flat is valued at 225k atm and it's a former council flat in a pretty dodgy area....

And?

What would you have him do with HIS money?

I really don't see what business it is of your's what he does with his money and to say he's not being careful with his money, again his business!

Good. He's bought a big expensive house. Now he HAS to be a fantastic Doctor for years if he wants to pay it off.

We got 'im guys and gals! You ain't going nowhere Smithy!

He's probably going to have a mortgage on that. I'm sure though that he'll have a reasonable amount of money about him already. Usually actors, pop stars and the like enjoy buying a house with no mortgage though.

Is the £600000 deal just for DW? He'll obviously have other work in the mean time, as DT had Hamlet, Secret Smile, Learners plus hosting various gameshows.

Having said that, CE was paid around £600000 for his one season. DT was paid £300000 for his first season. Of course they were perhaps better known than MS when they took the role, therefore commanding a bigger price.

He's buying a house in Highgate- I'm surprised he managed to find a house for that price in Highgate! Good on him- hope he enjoys it!

Hear hear! This should mean he's going to be about for at least 4 years (assuming he get a big rise once his contract comes up for renewal).

I say good on him, he's worked hard for the past 9 months and he's earned it. That's my view on the subject not a personal attack on anyone or whatever.

How about you take the advice you have so willingly dished out to those who have dared to disagree with you? You might find giving yourself a good seeing to makes you feel better.

Unlike people who blow £600,000 after winning the lottery on assorted one-off luxuries, when he decides to sell that house, it will probably be worth more than the £775,000 he spent on it.

He doesn't have to pay off the mortgage as the house will be worth just as much and probably more when he decides to sell it. In fact a house is currently a pretty good investment as property prices are generally rising now after the slump for much of the last couple of years.

I think he's probably made a very wise move by putting his money into property rather than living an expensive lifestyle on his Dr Who income.

Let's face if/when he decides to sell the house the fact that it's "The Doctor's" house would probably add quite a bit to the selling price.

It's quite a bit...

Guessing you're in London or some other large city? My house was bought for £65, 000 less than ten years ago, and is currently worth around £90, 000. Pretty average for the area. City properties seem to go for vastly inflated prices-for the price Smith paid, I'd expect Balmoral!

Yes, this sickens me that they've already gone as far as to tell us his purchasing habits, house etc, give the guy a break.

Well, he's clearly going to get the same attention as Tennant did, which means they'll be following him everywhere, taking pictures of him on holiday, going through his bins, etc etc. I hate to think of anyone getting all that, just for having an acting job. It must be an amazing job to have, but the press must sour it a bit. I can't really think of many current UK TV acting jobs that would get you as much intrusion.

It's normally quite tough for an actor even to get a mortgage, since yer average actor rests so much of the time, but the banks and building societies will roll out the red carpet for a 27-year-old actor who's landed such a plum role. He's bankable in the true sense of the word.

Good on him. Highgate is an expensive area in an expensive city, so it actually sounds like quite a bargain!

I think the OP would have come in for less criticism (and not then had a hissy fit) had he not added that rather spiteful last line. 'Dr Who buys a house' is fine, but dissing his financial nous is not.

He has bought a house?

How dare he!

He should be spending all his money on fast cars, girls, booze and drugs... not something sensible like a house.

Well, Matt is set to appear in a movie alongside Eva Green called "Womb" which is due out later in the year. He may have recieved a large paycheck for that too.

And appearance fees for the various interviews he has done. They might not be much but they all add up.
