Using PAYG to replace stolen Nokia

I recently had my old Orange Nokia 6310i stolen and need to get a new phone. Orange offered me another 6310i for 70 pounds (when I reported the loss) but I'd like to get newer model. I have a Nokia car kit CK-1W, so was looking at the Motorola V500 which is supposed to be compatible on the bluetooth side. I got Orange to send me a new SIM against my existing contract so have no problem in keeping my current number.

Orange have a deal on their website for a V500 as a PAYG for 129.99 which is cheaper than any of the SIM free offerings by quite a bit. What I'm trying to check out is if I can use the PAYG phone without problems. If I get the Orange V500 PAYG, register it, then use my contract SIM in it instead of the new PAYG SIM in the box will I get any probs. I would probably just keep the PAYG SIM as a spare just in case, I wouldn't really need it.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think any network in the UK lock phones to a particular tariff anymore, so that's not a problem.

Thanks for the info Pingu. The V500 is much cheaper as a PAYG than the SIM free offerings (around 60 pounds), so this suits me fine.

One other question if anybody knows. Do you actually have to register a PAYG at all? Can you just stick a working SIM in it and use it straight away (providing it's the same network) and forget about the registration. Or will the network want some record of the IMEI number against a particular person.

yes you can put any pre registered orange sim card into the new phone and use it with no problems. You might have to put in some settings like wap settings if you have not registered the phone as orange do send updates to the phone via sms. but all setting should be in the manual.

No, it doesn't matter about registering the SIM it comes with. Just go to the orange set-up site to send the correct settings for WAP/MMS. It would also be a good idea to tell orange the IMEI of the new phone and let them know you're using it on your contract SIM, so they have a record of its details incase it's lost or stolen in the furture.
