Hi there,

I have recently moved and wanted to move my Sky+ HD with me.However...the engineer that came round was useless and said a dish couldnt be fitted without trying to get a signal. Anyway, after many hours on the phone i now do not wish to pay them another penny of my money.

I don't have Virgin in my area so BT Vision is my only option ( or is it?? What is Talk Talk Tv? and canvas?? )

Im finding it hard to get a list of what is available on its On Demand services. I would be going for the Gold package...what does that include/not include.

All help and opinions are appreciated.

Thanks
Jason

The gold pack includes :-

Picturebox film
Sport (Premiership Replay etc)
Music
Kids
TV Replay
TV Pack
ESPN

Fire away if you have any more questions.

You get a range of 'repeat' sport on VOD though as it's not live, it's of little interest.
Films on Picturebox can be found here...
http://www.picturebox.tv/btvision
As you can see, they're poor and will come around again with formidable regularity.
I don't take the Kids pack so cant help though I would suspect they're excellent if you want yours to grow up sounding as though they come from Brooklyn.

I struggled to find any decent information too, which is why I signed up. Not long to go for me, then I'm free!

My advice? Swallow your pride and stay with Sky.

...Is exactly the place that neither the OP or I can (in my case, could) find any decent information.

And the OP's final point...

No HD Films (or TV programmes) are not free to gold subscribers. Films are £4.99. TV programmes are 99p (if you can find any. You have to watch them the day after you want to though as they have to be downloaded overnight.

Brilliant. Isn't it?

If by 'soon' you mean 'after several years tied up in the appeals courts then European courts, if at all' then maybe it'll make onto Canvas but not BTV which will have been replaced by Canvas by then if the BBC governers allow it to go forward. All much too far ahead to worry about now.

Just to clear up some basic errors in this thread :-

HD programmes can be downloaded at anytime - not just overnight. HD quality is excellent on my TV but I personally prefer blu-rays via Lovefilm - cheaper than any platform. Although if you're just an occasional viewer then pay per view with BTVision will be ok.

Third parties are hoping to buy wholesale sport from Sky in time for the new football season.

And for seeing whats available on BTVision use this link :-

http://www.btvision.bt.com/search-a-to-z/

Hope you enjoy it as much as I and many others on this forum do.

This would seem to indicate that the doom mongers saying it will be years if ever before Sky sports is on BTV , could be way off the mark.

I hope so as it could really help BTV and other companies other than Sky.

Thanks for the info.
Also, how long does it take for new shows to be put on vision? For example episodes from current series of 24 and lost that are on sky1 currently?

And what is a good deal for the service. Can BT be moved on price? I think im getting the Gold vision pack, unlimited bb and line rental for 51 a month. Is that good? Have people had success in bring the price down?

Thanks again
Jason

If Sky has exclusive contracts in place in can take a while for them to filter through to other services. I personally cant comment as I hardly watch any Amercian content.

BT can be moved on price if you haggle - especially if you're at an exchaneg that has many LLU competitors in it.

You'll get many replies comparing the prices between BTVision, Sky & VM etc etc - this has been doen to death and at the end of the day if you're happy with the service you get and price that you pay then that's all that counts.

Thanks for the info. If anyone can comment on shows such as Lost and 24 that would be helpful.
im torn wether to go for this or to carry on with standard freeview and see if i can get talk talk tv as it looks like they get sky1 ect.
But if Bt Vision can get Sky Sports is there anything stopping them getting Sky1 or is it allready available just at HIGH cost?

Sky themselves may launch Sky1 on Freeview via subscription - they are now allowed to due to the OFCOM ruling. It's a waiting game - lets just see what happens.

Also dont forget - BTVision doesnt carry any other linear channels - just the current Freeview channels - the rest is VOD. That will defo change soon though - again sit tight.

Sorry to ask more questions but you seem knowledgble and helpful. From what you can gather what are the plans we need to sit tight for? Do you mean Bt are looking to add other channels and if this is the case...is that through ariel or adsl? and Sky 1 through freeview would be good for me. If you dont want to speculate on any of the above that is fine....im just intregued in what direction bt vision is going to go in.

Also, when freeview goes HD in my are (2011) is the V+ upgradeable or will i need a new bit of kit?

It all depends upon what Sky does. If Sky puts subscription channels on Freeview then BT wouldnt need to stream them via broadband.

Saying that BT may well go down the streaming channels route and provide lots of additional channels via broadband - it's guesswork at the moment.

Be rest assured that BTVision will in alot of ways be changing as technology and the market allows.

And yes you'll need a new box to watch Freeview HD. I suspect that any great change in direction for BT regarding BTVision will arrive at the same time as this new box.

Thats my worry. I get the BT Vision box now and then in 6-12 months time i need a new bit of kit that they want to charge for.
Then again HD isnt available for another 12 months in my area and then the Vision contract would be over ( not the BB and phone line as they are 18 months grrr )

I'm still torn on what to do. Some people seem to really hate Vision and some seem to like it.

Decisions,decisions...

I subscribed to BT Vision Bronze pack for 1 year, then cancelled the bronze pack after the 12 months. BT Vision really is a load of rubbish, it can take anything up to 48 hours to upload TV Replay content (especially ITV), the bbc catchup hardly has any content as the bulk of content is available via the iplayer website.

Plus the new black box has an RF Out which is currently disabled.

You would be better off going for fetchtv or 3view. both of these will have full access to Iplayer and skyplayer.

Don't waste your time and money with BT Vision.

I would say its worth it. You can watch all the old Fools and Horses from series 1 to 7, along with other classic BBC shows.

BTVision offers great shows like 24, Lost, Prison break, The Shield etc.

Plus you get Free ESPN.

Well worth it and excellent value for money. Never had any problems with replay content, everything I wanted has always been there.

The loading of Replay content is the responsibility of the providers (BBC, ITV etc). I have noticed that iplayer content can also be late. Replay content is also well fleshed out in my opinion - I hardly ever fail to find something that I was looking for.

BTVision is also the ONLY place you can get Replay for all 5 major terrestrial channels.

The lack of RF out may be a pain to you but I'm guessing that the vast majority doesnt need or want it.

Fetchtv or 3view do not benefit from QOS (Quality Of Service)and as such will be subject to a low quality stuttering viewing if you can watch them at all. Watching them also contributes to your download limits which is something you just cant ignore these days.

How new is their Lost and 24 content?
Also, does it get shows like Fringe and Bones?

I am tempted but not sure if its worth getting a cheaper phone and BB package from Talk Talk and waiting till their tele offering comes out later in the year and keep freeview for now.

Hmmmm its hard to know what to do especially as you are ties into contract!

Exactly. You'll be in a good position to bargain when you recontract.

Some people hate Sky & VM too it's the way things happen here on the forums. People also only tend to come to forums when they have a problem or a gripe - it's human nature - although some make a career out of it which is unhealthy

Most of the shows you're after seem to be on there but I'm guessing that they'll be a season behind Sky as they have first dibs.

Personally I havent heard very good things about Talk Talk but then again I've never really looked into it.
