Once upon a time there was a poor Kansas farmgirl called Gordon. Lost on the emerald frontbenches, all she wanted was to go home to Raith. Together with the good witch Glinda Mandelson and her faithful dog Ed Balls, she finally realised it was in her power all along to go the palace, squeeze her eye(s) tightly shut and say There's no Parliament when you dissolve it! And before she knew it, little Gordon opened her eyes and she was back at home heading up the IMF and ruining the UK from a different angle whilst all the little munchkin people suffered hyperinflation and high interest rates for ever and ever. Her singing has improved greatly and her acting wasn't half bad so I think she is a possibility. Isn't she off trying to have a pop career. Mind you she got good reviews so I wouldn't be surprised to see her back in the West End if she doesn't because a big star.

Depends if you wnat to go to the authentic 17-18 year olds who can look younger or go to the experienced people 20-25 who can look 16. You then have to fit the vocal ranges. There's some very talented toung females who might look right in Les Mis, Blood Brothers, Oliver, and more from the tour of Little Shop of Horrors. They seem to have resisted going younger and letting anyone experienced in Annie or SOM in and there's no one who played young Cosette or any other major child role either - you wonder if any applied .

Nancy Sullivan the current Eponine and her understudy in Les Mis both played Dorothy in 2007 - both would probably still look young enough. There's also Katie Hall who is the touring Les Mis Cosette and has already played Christine and Cosette in the West End - she's vocally stunning and commands a stage and is istill n the same age range as the Dorothies. There's probably more shows with other people in them who look the part too.

Jessie could shine - shes got the US accent now, the role fits her and in real life she's actually much shorter than you ( me anyway) would think watching her on TV. Leanne from Maria might be interesting she played a very young Cosette in 2008/9 and acted that role very well - she might look the part too and could also turn on the vocals.

I'd agree with Katie Hall, her vocals are stunning I was VERY impressed when I saw her in Les Mis in January!

I disagree because she isn't innocent enough! She was having it off with Gareth Gates who was also in Les Mis whilst his wife/girlfriend was pregnant!!

There is a difference between being innocent and acting innocent If she's a good actress, she should be able to convince. I don't care what she does off stage.

I'd object to Katie Hall on the grounds that she is a dyed in the wool soprano.

In the score Judy Garland sang Dorothy is a very low alto. Obviously that was to accomodate Garland's voice, but what are they doing with this production. Isn't ALW more or less rewriting it? Are we looking for an alto or a soprano?

Most of the girls chosen seem to be strong altos with a reasonable belt range. Whereas Katie Hall is more comfortable in the upper soprano register.

It would indeed help if we knew what they were going to have to sing. As it is also its not clear what the selling point is meant to be for the show - vibrant acting, realism, cuteness, stunning vocals, new songs, its pretty impossible to pick who might provide it.

Katie has understudied and played Christine who fits most of the Dorothy character if she can do uS accents and her characterisation of Cosette looked just what a Dorothy might and ALW says he wants - haven't seen her dance. In this case with the story and songs as are I may need something like a good soprano to stop falling asleep on the yellow brick road. I would hope she would be otherwise occupied though - you would hope someone would give her Christine as a lead soon.
