Feliway Diffusers

Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have ever used Feliway to calm your pets down? I've got 2 cats - 1 male 1 female, and the male is always chasing the female (they've both been 'done') and it's leading her to be very frightened quite alot of the time.

I've heard that the Feliway diffuser may a) calm the male cat down and stop him chasing her so much and b) calm her down so if he does chase her she isn't quite so traumatised.

Just looking for peoples experiences, really

Beautiful cats

As for Feliway, I haven't tried it yet but I do intend to. I have 2 cats, both female, one bold as brass, one quite timid. They scrap a little too often for my liking although most of the time they are OK. I wouldn't say they are friends but rather they tolerate each other which is a shame because they are sisters and as kittens used to snuggle up together and play and just generally love each other. Anyway the bold one (Fliss) usually starts the fight, not always, the timid one (Missy) can be a little rascal too, but it's usually Fliss.
When they went for their recent booster jabs and health check I spoke to the vet about it and he recommended I try Feliway. He said it doesn't always work but most people find it effective so it's worth a try. They didn't have any in stock at the time so I will be going back next week for one. Anything is worth a try because Missy will be fast asleep and Fliss will come along and just go for her. She wakes up terrified and under attack and I've got to try something.

I have a male cat who's 2 and since I got him at 12 weeks he has always been very nervous, I have a diffuser and it really helps him especially when i moved house.

I have noticed he grooms excessively and behaves strangely when it is running out, or in the past when it has ran out before i've had chance to change it so i definately think they work, so give it a try and see if it helps your 2!

Really really good - my cat is really highly strung and when we moved house we got one of the Feliway diffusers and he didnt even make a peep when we took him to the new house!

He was chilled and acted as normal as he did in the old place (which was the only house he had ever known).

I thoroughly recommend them!

I agree it is money well spent. I too had one sibling that was always at the bottom of the pile and running away to hide. When I got the feliway plug in she has started to come and sit by me for a cuddle - which she had NEVER done before - and seems far less scard of her brothers.
You will find it MUCH cheaper on Amazon or medicanimal which makes it more affordable.

I've used Feliway for various situations with some success. It might be asking a bit much for it to put a stop to inter-cat bullying but it's worth a try!

Thank you for your replies! Ordered one today from medicanimal at a very reasonable price so fingers crossed

How did you get on with this in the end? I have just adopted a third cat from the RSPCA, and whilst my older cat has barely turned a hair, the younger one has turned into a hissing growling spitfire, refusing to interact with anyone!! I was considering getting a diffuser to see whether it would help matters.

My cat was 'bullied' (by another cat) and he got quite upset. I'd say that Feliway did the trick. Of course, maybe he just accepted that he was lower down the pecking order and got in with his life?!

I got one recently and it seems to be working pretty well on our 3 cats.

By the way, do you leave them switched on all the time or use them for stressful incidents only? I read when first using you should leave it on for 4 weeks to get the cats used to it.

It seems to be doing the trick really well - onto the second one now so I've had it for about 6 weeks. Leave it on all the time and the amount they're fighting has gone down loads! I'm not sure if this is because they're out more because the weather's a little better though, so we'll see if it lasts into the winter months!

Maybe living with cats has affected you! I know I feel like an honorary cat living with them.

Feliway - both the diffuser and the spray - are fantastic!
I got two rescue cats recently, at different times, and they really weren't getting on.
Within 15 mins of the diffuser - best friends.
Been fine together ever since, apart from the usual odd wap at each other

Does anyone with anxious cats use anything else apart from Feliway? Can anyone recommend anything, preferably drops for putting on food, that they've had success with?

Recently one of my cats had an accident and was on cage rest for a month. She was finding it extremely difficult and was so stressed out. It was heartbreaking to see her trying to claw her way out of the cage and she was getting in a real state. The vet recommended I use Zylkene. Its a capsule you open and sprinkle in the food or water. It really calmed her down. You can buy from the vets or online cheaper and no prescription is needed as they are not a medicine. They might be worth a try.

I've read that valerian acts a stimulant for cats (like catnip). I would check with your vet before giving any remedy like that, just to make sure it's the right thing to do.

Is there is something in particular which is making your cat anxious SL?

Thanks Lippincote. I'll speak to the vet about my feelings on the anxiety next time I see him.

My cat is a diabetic and his BG has been higher recently. He seems to be a sensitive type generally, but there has been some extra stress here recently. One of the family has been ill for one thing.

Just tried this to try and achieve harmony between my 10month ish male kittten Leo(the agressor, had since he was 8 weeks ) and 5year old male Felix both neutered.

Had it plugged in about 4 days and main effect is older boy is just sleeping the whole time. is this the usual effect.?Both had breakfast and took to their beds this morning but youngster still attacks old boy if has a chance

just wondered what others thought -it was only plugged in for about 4 days and is now unplugged after all family, even daughters Boyfriend, ccused me of turning felix into a druggie!does it usually work that fast, should I persevere?

I'd persevere with it. It's recommended to leave it switched on. Our cats do tend to sleep more with it, but probably moreso when we first got it. Maybe it's a stage of getting used to it and feeling really relaxed. They always know when it's food time though!
