As they pointed out the BBC did it first.....I was hoping the article was about the BBC showing DOI instead of ITV....that would mean no adverts and hopefully no Jason!

I must admit that when I saw the headline only, I did think that might be what was going on. I also wonder whether the wrangle which currently has a specific focus might ultimately end up going in that direction.

I'm just surprised it's taken the BBC around 5 years to actually consider taking leagal action against ITV, they'd be stupid not to. DOI is a blatant rip-off of both SCD and the ice dancing special they did. If ITV want to play dirty, then the BBC can as well.

The fact that they haven't probably proves they wouldn't have much of a case.

Copycat formats are produced all the time on TV. Can't see anything unique about this situation.

Totally agree television shows have always borrowed from eachother. No broadcaster has ever won a case claiming copyright infringement in either the UK or US

It was neither a BBC or Itv show. IIRC it was scheduled all over the place by FOX and seen as a rip off of dancing with the stars .

The new show is going to be launched as a spin off of DWTS at the end of the year.
