9200T needs fixing
riggie

Hi Everyone
I replaced my 9200T with the 9300T this year and I was wondering if I could get the 9200T repaired.
I problem was banding on the picture basically looked like interference, I took a picture which shows the banding but believe me it looked worse than the photogragh shows.
The banding gradually got worse from barely visable until really annoying so I presume some component has malfunctioned, I did all the tests using different ariels different TV etc but the fault moved with the 9200T.
would it be worth trying to get it repaired ? ( had no answer or help from Humax )

Picture of bands here, you have to look close!

have you tried changing from rgb mode / composite?

connecting via RF?

How are you connecting the HUMAX to the TV? RF/SCART?

If RF, you could try changing the output RF channel to avoid co channel interferance, also maybe try changing the UHF Offset.

If using SCART, suggest that you check to ensure that the TV scart socket can accept RGB, some dont,

Hi all
mitchell , thats one of the first things I tried hoping that a different connection or feed may not be using the component thats going down but the results were the same.
Dont think I ever tried the Humax with just the RF lead only.

geebee , It has always been connected to AV1 on the panasonic TH-37PX80B and I checked today and the AV1 and AV2 connection accepts RGB.
I also tried a new scart lead and reversed the old one at the time but no change, I was using a good quality scart as well , the ribbon type with metal ends.

I thought of trying a new Hard Drive cos it's something I could do basically, my only reasoning for this was I thought everything must come off the Hard Drive as how else could you rewind anything your viewing, and very old recordings way before the problem existed show the bands also.
I dont fully understand the workings of the PVR but if you can rewind instantly like I say surely all your viewing is off the drive ?
And if it was the hard drive would this not account for the bands being on all channels and all recordings ?
But all said and done it looks like a signal or interference fault.
Mind you I have got an old 10gig hard drive I could try ......wonder if you can stick anything in these.

to be honest, id guess that it was more a case of viewing live via the tuner, but it also being backed up to hard drive as u view.

Is the interference visible on the menu screens, guide, etc?

I suggested trying via RF only, incase its your scart output(s) thats dodgy?

Suggest maybe try to route the scart cable away from any mains cables. You could also disconnect the RF from the TV as your using SCART to see if that makes any difference.

I had a problem with interference on the picture which I identified as analogue noise - horizontal lines and fluctuating brightness. It was not coming from the scart as suggested above but I discovered a failed 5V voltage regulator that was producing a noisy voltage around 4v for the analogue section, near the scart sockets. I have replaced it with a new one from Maplin and now all is well.

Nice fix. Any chance you could post a picture to definitively identify the failing component?

Yes, I have a photo with a red arrow indicating the failed regulator. Now if I could just work out how to post it....

You can't post it on DS. You'll have to use one of the various photo hosting sites and upload it to there and post a link to the photo.
