OK,In the cold light of day.Time to reflect.
On balance, given the role of Dorothy and what it requires,Danielle is the ideal choice.Congratulations to her.She is a worthy winner, for reasons commented on elsewhere.
Lauren is an exceptionally talented performer. In terms of her solo vocal performances no one came anywhere near challenging her.In the end, whether we agree with it not,and ironically it was her maturity and polished professional qualities that denied her the role.
She was eclipsed (vote wise) by the more natural qualities of both Sophie and Danielle.
Looking back, more than any other performance it was her duet with Danielle, that convinced me she was not going to win. They were,as everyone has said both brilliant.
But Popular was set up to present the girls acting qualities. It was a vocally undemanding number.I have to say,Danielle is a more accomplished actress than Lauren.Of course we are talking about differences at a very high level. So in relative terms it makes little difference in respect of being a West End Star, but it was crucial with regard to being Dorothy.
But it is Lauren's vocals that set her aside. She was the only girl who sent tingles down my spine when she sang. Her rendition of The Man who got way was the best of the entire series. It was a powerhouse performance.
However because of the kind of song it was,it was never going to be compared with Danielle's Mambo Italiano.
I am now so excited for Lauren. This was a competition for one role. The kudos and the bragging rights quite understandably go to Danielle, but as others have said Lauren may well be a West End Star long before the first lines of the audience take their seats at the Palladium next year.
