Favourite episode or favourite story? I don't have a favourite individiual episode, but my favourite story is probably The Androids of Tara. Though they're all pretty good.

Everybody criticizes the Megara as being a cheap effect, but I think they're really effective. A very clever idea.

Wobbly sets are a bit of a myth, I think. Most of them actually looked quite sturdy. Even when an asbestos scare in the studio meant they ended up filming in a tent in the car park...

I had to think for a second what Season 16 was then.
Key To Time season.

My favourite story is definitely Stones Of Blood. I love everything about it, the dialogue, the script, the characters, though that Vivian Faye deserved a good slap for her constant smug expression. Even the bit where those two campers are confronted by the Ogri outside their tent and the woman puts her hand on it was very chilling.
I especially like how the story changes from the cutesy Earth setting to the spaceship in Hyper space.

The Pirate Planet is also great, though that nurse also needs a good slap for her wooden acting.
Androids of Tara is a bit of harmless fun, and I love Armageddon Factor mainly for the Shadow. That dude is creepy.

I didn't like Ribos Operation the first time I saw it. There didn't seem to be much of a plot happening, just alot of wandering around corridors, but Romana looked fine.
Power of Kroll isn't so strong, but I was impressed with Kroll as a visual effect.

Overall, I thought the whole season was a great idea that turned out well.

just downloading the armageddon factor now, so i will be posting my opinion on that tomorrow, all in all i was thoroughly unimpressed with the power of kroll didnt hold my interest like the others. Meglo (may i call you meglo?) i agree about vivian fey and the nurse they both needed a good slapping but heyho these things do tend to have a habit of creeping up in who! anyway toodaloo my fellow whovians i shall post my opinons on the armageddon factor (for those few of you who wish to hear/read it) tomorrow afternoon! goodnight to you all!

Season 16 has loads of female characters ... far more than most other seasons of old DW. It's very noticeable.

My favourite would be The Stones of Blood. It drops in quality a bit when the Megara come along, but the rest is excellent: the Ogri, hilarious Prof Rumford, creepy Vivien Fay, the camping sequence is utterly horrible, Elaine Ives-Cameron was always a favourite of mine, lots of stuff about citric acid ... lovely. Androids of Tara is lovely, warm, cosy and summery, and has Cyril Shaps in it.

The Armageddon Factor is crap. A classic example of a six part story being two episodes too long. It's boring, padded, waffly and uninvolving. Bad, bad, bad. Hate it. At least Power of Kroll has a slimy monster (Kroll gives me the heebiejeebies), an unusual location, and that hilarious cliffhanger where Romana is menaced by a claw. ("I suppose it looked more convincing from the front"). Armageddon has none of that. It's poo.

Definitely Stones Of Blood though it loses something when it goes to Hyperspace.

Then Ribos - a lovely story full of ideas, Tara is also good, a light little romp. Both of these stories have a nice historical fantasy tinge to them.

For me those 3 are far ahead of the rest of the season - Pirate Planet has its moments but is quite dull for the most part. Kroll is below average but watchable, Armageddon Factor is a real pain. Would have been bad enough as 4 episodes but as 6 it's wretched.

Ribos, the best story of the season by far. Not only that, one of the top Who stories ever.

Yes you can call me meglo, sounds like meglo-maniac.

What I don't get in Stones of Blood, when Vivian Fey is observing the Doctor's trial with the Megara while proclaiming herself to be from Earth, she's dressed like she's a mermaid from the planet Neptune.
I guess the Megara didn't really know what human females looked like, but part of the Doctor's evidence should have included the fact that human females aren't silver lol

Parts one and two of The Stones of Blood are wonderful. Sadly, the wheels come off the story badly in the last couple of episodes with some truly embarrassing scenes in hyperspace.

I've always had a soft spot for The Power of Kroll too. It's not really the story itself I like, more the location. The marshes make it stand out from the woods / quarries generally used as locations for alien planets at the time (however effectively those locations might have been used on occasion). It's a shame about the famously rubbish special effect in the final episode - I remember giggling at the incredibly obvious split-screen even as an eight year old.

I watched that recently, first time since being a kid. I was really looking forward to it, but was thoroughly disappointed.

I'm not a big fan of The Key to Time in general, but do like Stone of Blood and The Power of Kroll.

Power of Kroll is not bad - bit too much padding perhaps.

Fav story is def Stones of Blood or Androids of Tara - both of whihc have a great sense of humour.
