Hi All,

I have posted about a similiar issue previously but now things are becoming more of a reality as we are moving house.

Currently I have a Sky+ box, with RF out to the bedroom and a magic eye plumbed in to that.

We are moving house.....which already also has a Sat Dish with Sky Plus in the lounge plumbed in and from what I understand has an RF out plumbed in to the Bedroom just the same as our current house.

What I would like to do is get rid of Sky+ and stop paying £20 a month and buy a Freesat+ box and receive HD free rather than pay sky another £10 for the benefit.

Therefore, I was looking at the following page for Freesat+ recorders:

Now since I last looked 2yrs ago, there are LOADS more choice. Are there any good reviews of all recorders available?

I understand I may need to use something like TV link to get the upstairs TV to work. I also understand I wouldn't be to run a HD signal up to coax cable to the bedroom.

Any help appreciated!

My limited experience is based on having had a Sky+ box in the past and replacing that with a s/h Sky HD box a couple of years ago. To enable me to watch/record ITV1 HD I recently treated myself to a Humax Foxsat HDR box, with a plan to dumping Sky. In my view your plan will work at the new house ok as long as you can sort the bedroom RF/control side of things. Maplins sell RF modulators so that may be worth a look at. I cannot recommend the Humax highly enough but it does take a bit of getting used to after the Sky box, which is so easy to operate. Good luck!

You're aware, I hope, that there isn't much HD on Freesat and sadly no sign of any more in the near future. It's just that reading your reply suggests that you think the FS HD offering is comparable to the Sky offering. I think a better way of putting it would be:You don't want to pay £10 for the privilege of watching HD so you'd rather do without.

Of course if you only ever watched the free channels anyway then it makes little odds but you do lose C4HD, E4HD and you won't get Five HD if/when it ever launches. If you keep your old Sky HD box to hand then at least you have the option of watching those without a Sky sub - you just can't record them using the Sky box.

Indeed I realise I may need a TV link in the bedroom and a modulator box downstairs, fairly cheap and easy to get.

Andrue - Yup aware not many other HD chans on Freesat+ at the mo, but we really only watch ITV / BBC and none of the extra Sat Channels and we don't have any premium channels with our sky+ sub at the mo.

Although it is a dissapointment to hear that channel4 HD wouldn't be on there!

Any reviews on boxes tho peeps? Is the foxsat still the best out there for dollar??

Don't know whether it's the best but most here seem happy enough with it despite grumbles. It's not perfect but then what is?

Although CH4HD is not on Freesat the picture quality is excellent on the Foxsat HDR.
