which character past/present is/was the best comedian/ienne
I hear what "soaps'r' us" is saying about everyone moaning, but it's not the people's fault here, we NEED a lot more laughter in soaps. If we're fed doom and gloom, then it sucks us in with it! So I was wondering at the opposite end of the scale, do you have one, feel good character in soap, someone who's a comic natural, that you can't help laughing out loud at whenever they're on?
I think Corrie are trying to do this with Fred and some of his comic expressions, and recently his th'internet, although trading in on Peter Kay's t'internet gag a bit. Reg Holsworth was a hard act to follow in my opinion. The famous waterbed scene with Maureen had brilliant comic timing. He seemed a natural comic. But generally Corrie relies more on the actors delivering funny lines than actual comic performances. Unless they have cameo performances like Peter Kay, and presumably Norman Wisdom? who I read was joining; I hope he's not playing a serious part ! |

I'd have to agree with Reg Holdsworth.

Yes, Blanche and Eileen are very good, but they don't even COMPARE to Vera Duckworth!

Corrie's crackers..
When we were first introduced to her, I think Raquel (Sarah Lancashire) was a lot of fun. However, I still think that the timeless classic comedy double act that was Bet & Alec Gilroy takes some beating!

Collen Smart in Home and Away, she cracks me up most of the time!
Both of Sherrie Hewson's soap characters (Maureen in Corrie and Virginia in Crossroads mk 2 & 3) were good too! Matt |
