CHART SONGS that were criminally underrated but were actually quite good
caprice - once around the sun
now that caprice ..... you know, the supermodel (was she a supermodel?) anyway ..... instantly liked this song as soon as i heard it letitia dean & paul medford - something outta nothing ok, at the time the fad was all those soap stars (mainly eastenders and neighbours) were churing out guff after guff after guff ..... but this little gem shone through the darkness. i LOVE the "roughness" of the sound and it instantly got to me that's the two i remember most |

-I think paramore is underrated too. They're a great band.
-Also The Script had two other good songs after The man that can't be moved, which was "We cry" and "Break even" where did those chart? I don't think I knew but both were good songs aswell, imo. - Pixie Lott - Gravity (should be higher) |

O Superman - Laurie Anderson
Dismissed by many at the time as pretentious bollox or a 'novelty' song (possibly with some reason)....but I think it's rather good. |

VV Brown - Shark in the Water.
Too bad she couldn't get a hit with this, it was the most radio-friendly thing on her album, with 'Game Over' being the only other to come close. |

For me, a couple of tracks by a singer called "Danielle Gaha"
(apparently married and now known as "Danielle DeAndrea" "Do it for Love" and "Stuck in the Middle" were two great pop songs but did absolutely nothing in the charts back in '92. Another unknown one .. Alex Prince ft. Mazaya - "How we Living'" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sn3SBgUyS6A Another one .. Total Touch - "Touch me There" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad6XjzkiMoM Another one .. Sarah Connor - "Bounce" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tA9PSTxxoX8 Sarah Whatmore - "When I Lost You" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ds0aV1cdUA I'm going before I get carried away

I also think songs like Ego - The Saturdays should have had it's chance to chart higher and i think "Up" by them should've made no.1 - they would've deserved it especially when this song has been better than some recent no.1's.

I Love most of the Saturdays Singles, Ego and Work were both excellent tracks.
Paris Hilton-Nothing in this World is one of my all-time favourite tracks and well worth a listen if you can get over who is singing it. A perfect piece of pop imo |

Michelle Williams - We Break The Dawn springs to mind. If you had slapped a more well known stars name on the cover, and released it as it was, it would have been huge.

We Cry was the lead single and peaked in the top ten, I think. Breakeven was like, #21 or something but lasted in the charts for quite a while.

I'm going to choose a few from the early 2000s surprisingly. Who remembers these? The Avalanches - Since I Left You. This was one of the few songs I actually rushed out to buy on the day it was released. I do recall that this did get quite a lot of airplay on Radio 1 (think Sara Cox chose it as a record of the week) and I even managed to catch the video a few times on the music channels. Radio 2 played it a few times as well. A Top 20 hit in 2001 but definitely underrated. I imagine more people will remember 'Frontier Psychiatrist,' which was also excellent. Fatboy Slim ft. Macy Gray - Demons. One of the most quirky songs I've ever heard but Macy's vocals, the lyrics and minimalist arrangement are in my opinion some of the finest things I've ever heard. S.P.O.O.K.S. - The Things I've Seen & Karma Hotel. Once again, I recall these getting heavy airplay and 'Things I've Seen' even managed to break the Top 10! 'Karma Hotel' was clearly inspired by 'Hotel California' and it tells a fantastic, yet eerie story and the refrain is so damn catchy. CHECK THESE OUT! Dirty Vegas - Ghosts. One of the best British songs from the last 10 years and though 'Days Go By' got well-deserved acclaim (including a Grammy!) I feel that 'Ghosts' was better and considerably underrated. Uplifting and a bit trippy I suppose. However, consider that 'Automatic High' by S Club Juniors and a pretty lacklustre song that hugely relied on Stevie Wonder's 'Do I Do' (Ja Rule's 'Livin' It Up') both charted in the top 10 at the same time 'Ghosts' was released... COME ON! My choice for an underrated song in the 90s (there are of course loads but I'll be here all night) has to be 'Sun Hits The Sky' by Supergrass. The artwork for the single was apt and amusing. Although it was a top 10 hit and received quite a bit of airplay, it was overlooked by the local radio stations and still doesn't get played enough! For me, this is one of the finest songs from the 'cool britannia' period. Quote:

Paris Hilton's album was actually quite strong! If somebody like Britney Spears or Katy Perry had released it, I think it would have been huge
