I like him but episode 2 not as much as one

I like her less and less the more I see her, I dont like the character at all (shame as Karen herself in confidential seems a cracking lass )

I still can't form an opinion. I found the chemistry between the doctor and Amy rather poor in the recent episode. But that doesn't mean they are poor overall. You can't get it right every episode.

Within minutes of last night's episode I was thinking Patrick Troughton, with the quirky hand gestures. Makes sense seeing Matt studied Troughton's performance.

I totally love Matt in the role, he is very old school Doctor, something Ecclestone and Tennant moved away from. Ok, he is young, and it is odd to see such a young looking Doctor claim authority over older looking characters around him. However, from his performance I completely believe he is an ancient Time Lord.

One thing about Matt's acting, I do find it a little stunted at times, his line delivery seems a bit scripted to me, but at other times he perfectly spontaneous. Perhaps it is an intentional part of his character. Either way I look forward to seeing how he grows in the role.

Loving Amy in every way.

Have to say after only two episodes I am really glad Tennant and RTD moved on. That's not a criticism of them, just praise for Moffat and Smith.

This pairing is working really well, so far. Smith is the best Doctor since Paul McGann, he just seems to have immediately understood the character. Reminds me a lot of Troughton with a bit of Tom edginess and Paul's earnestness. A good combination.

I really am finding Doctor Who a waste of time. I hated Saturday's dull episode and think the new companion is awful. I'm not impressed by the new Doctor Who actors either. Very sad for the programme.

well it's very sad for you, not the programme, since most people seem quite happy with things thus far...

I think they are both excellent. Matt feels as though he has been in the role forever and definitely IS the Doctor, a great improvement to what went before Amy also has the makings of a very good companion. I'm going to enjoy this series immensly

Give it time, it's early days, we have nothing from the other 4 series as a touch stone, everything is new and it will take a while to get used to it all. I do agree though that last nights story was very much a filler and yes, at times it was a little dull, but looking forward to next weeks, lets hope that last nights ep was the weakest of the series.

I think they are great together, and seem to really understand how each other works. I did think this episode was weaker than last weeks, but it flew past for me, so I wasn't bored. I couldn't believe that 45 minutes had gone past so fast, which was weird, because I didnt enjoy it as much! I think it's more difficult this time because as well as trying to develop the personalities of two new lead characters, but also their relationship to each other, which maybe they felt would take longer than it actually has.

Its not just me. I've spoken to quite a few people who thought it was tripe on twitter. And my friend's son who is 7 didn't like it.

And I've spoken to quite a few people who thought it was brilliant on twitter and in real life. Doesn't prove anything either way.

However, I had a look through the twitter feed after last nights show and I'd say it was easily 90% + positive.

Matt Smith:

Karen Gillan:

Not seeing many negative comments there, and I went back quite far to be fair.

Though I think the two, as actors, are quite good, I think the writers are trying to make them connect to quickly.
For this moment I would rate them as Doctor and companion both B-, but with a lot of potential for improvement.

I think Matt is doing a great job, he seems to act "older" than Tennant or Ecclestone. Karen is great as well, they are both helped by good screenplays.

The more I see of Matt Smith the more I am impressed. I agree with those who have said he is reminiscent of Troughton and I love that.

Amy is growing on me (my daughters love her)I like the chemistry they have together. She hasn't grabbed me immediately as Matt did but she's getting there.

Same with mine, I've stopped watching it but my son who is 7 as well has tried twice now to watch it and twice he has stopped after about 15 minutes. For what I saw of it, I can't blame him.

My little one (6)watched last weeks episode over a dozen times this week, but last nights? well so far he has watched the first few minutes earlier, got a bit bored, and started to watch confidential instead, he has now watched that twice. I dont think he was over inpressed by it last night.

in fairness this thread is supposed to be about Matt and Karen and not the episodes themselves.

Wholeheartedly agree. I think Matt's unfamiliarity with the programme and the Doctor really helped. He made a good decision to only research the performances of classic series Doctors as it means he has reinvented the character in a familiar way (if that makes sense).

I was late 80s early 90s child, and so had a barren Who time!

I did enjoy Eccleston and Tennant (didn't really see the Mcgann one), but I have never been as excited as I am by Matt Smith's doctor. I think he's an excellent actor (although in real life comes across as a bit too worth for my liking) and he and Gillan have a great chemistry. Also a little shout for Steven Moffat's writing - captivating stuff!

Am I the only one who feels Amy's character is too strong? I don't like women made to look feeble, but both episodes so far seem to revolve more around Amy and last night she even was the one to solve it. I want the doctor to save the universe, not his companion who should be there to help. Makes the doctor look weak to me.

Matt Smith: Matt...he's doing well, but it's taking me a while to get used to him. At certain points in last night episodes, he seemed to be much improved and once he fully grows into the role, I'm sure he'll blow me away. I'll properly judge him at the end of episode 13, but for now, I give him 7/10.

Amy Pond: I love her. Karen does a fantastic job, and already I think she could be better than Rose. It helps that she is extremely hot too!9/10

I absolutely loved Matt in the first episode - which amazed me, as I'm a Tennant girl through and through...but last night I found him a little dull - don't know if it was the script, but he just didn't seem to have enough "omph" about him. Sure it was just a blip, or just me....don't have any opinion about the companion - she's just a companion as far as I'm concerned..but I wonder whether they've made her quite a fiesty character to compensate for something lacking in him?

Okay, I miss David...I miss his eyes...I miss his energy...I miss his hair. How sad am I?

Matt Smith is closer tothe Doctors of the classic who (IMO) than nu who so he might win back some old fans while losing some of the newbies.
