The "old, alone and kind" one? It did seem she said that about 10 times, and although it was the writers' fault, it did seem forced.

She was basically saying: "He's old, kind and alone, and when someone is old, kind and alone *wink wink nudge nudge*, they're often old kind and alone, like some other people *hint hint* and they need some one. People are often old, kind and alone *cough*DOCTOR*cough*."

Loving the new team.

I think another poster summed it up perfect MS has fitted the role so well its the biggest compliment he could have.

Amy feels like shes been there for years already

I suspect that may be the case. I haven't enjoyed Doctor Who this much in ages.

He's my favourite Doctor so far and I adored CE and DT. He's young but eccentric and not to mention quirky (ha haa! and all the random finger gestures). Those are the characteristics that I love in the Doctor, so perfect for me. Not to mention that I have a bit of a thing for MS, but I digress ...

Amy, yes I like her, but she needs to grow on me more before I can say she's perfect in the role. That title for me is still being held by Donna, although she would not have worked well alongside MS!

Despite his youth MS reminds me of a Classic Who Doctor so much more than CE or DT, which is a good sign.

I dont think Matt is very good when trying to be emotional but apart from that he seems like a pretty good Doctor. Amy seems pretty good to

One of my reservations about Matt Smith was his age, but I'm absolutely thrilled that the writers have leaned into a 'nutty professor' character for this doctor and Matt seems to be pulling it off brilliantly so far. If they'd gone for a more 'hero of the hour' like Tennant I'm pretty sure it would have turned into Hollyoaks type deal.

Amy - hmmm I'm really not sure tbh. She's a brilliant actress no doubt, but I think my own skepticism about ages has kind of transferred onto the companion role now. I like the mix of young/old (Eccleston/Piper, Tennant/Tate) far more than I like them similar ages..... I'm also not sure how taken I am with the very similar 'wise beyond their years' characters of both the Dr and companion.

Plenty of time to judge that properly though

I'm just not 'getting Amy. Matts portrayal of the Doc is OK, but it's still yet to click for me.

Love both of them. Matt Smith is definately hinting towards the classic series for me.

Matt : Absolutely loving him so far, much more than I thought I would and by the end of this series he may well be a serious contender for my favourite Doctor. He has just the right mix of humour, likeability, darkness and "alien-ness", for want of a better word. He's a great mix of Two, Four, and Ten for me.

Karen : Also loving her. She's got such huge potential for storylines and exploration that's been deliberately untouched so far - I just want to know more about her, which in turn makes the series more engaging and easier to look forward to. Back in the Tennant/Piper days I didn't really get a sense of learning anything new from one week to the next, while in all the other years you do get that feeling, and especially this year.

It's all looking great so far

I think they are both great, individually and as regards their very obvious chemistry together.

I struggled slightly with Matt's take on the role in the opening episode - too manic and a bit too smug - but in Ep 2he's shown more depth and range. I'm now hooked on him.

I also really like Amy's feistiness and intelligence, which Karen is portraying very well. She's a strong actor.

Overall, much more impressed with the characterisation in Ep 2 and I hope it goes from strength to strength.

I fell in love with Matt instantly in the eleventh hour, that dipped a bit in the beast below but i'm confident he will grow on me again in coming episodes.

Amy has been great in both episodes,i love the way she has a similar intelligence and fast reactions as the doctor.

She reminds me alot of Romana 2 in many ways

I think Matt is terrific, he definitely has shades of Troughton and (for me at least) Tom Baker and Eccleston at times, which is fascinating to watch.
Amy I'm not too fond of (yet) as apart from her hammering home her 'old, alone and kind' point, on her first trip she deliberately put herself in danger (why shouldn't a 'keep out' sign mean just that to any of them *sigh* even if it is a plot device, she's a few minutes away from 21st century earth and she's not even cautious) and then she solved the whole thing which I think is way too early for any companion. She didn't do much for me last week either.
Nope, she definitely hasn't convinced me yet.
I used to like it when there were two companions so they could all play off against each other and there was so much more scope.

Am I the only person here who prefered Matt's Doctor on 'Beast Below' rather than 'Eleventh Hour'

I don't think so, no. I think he is liable to be more like we saw him in TBB than he was in TEH, where he was still not quite "cooked" as he put it.

Very much so - as somebody has seem his Who viewing go from black & White to colour (and now to HD) I can get exactly what you mean. It's easy to get blinkered on just the recent Doctor eras but Matt feels like a younger version from an older period. Works very well for me and I also like the fact Amy is obviously going to be given a little more clout. All the best 'companions' have been those that give far more than that label implies.

Only two in but thumbs up so far for the pair.

I'm with you on that too. The latter end of Eleventh felt better as he started to level off and Beast had him on a much more even level. I know new Whos have to have their manic first episode as the changes bed in so it wasn't a big surprise really.

yeah i agree with that bit, i felt the same, she was so careless there and it just left you wondering if the girl has a death wish or something...it made her look stupid to me, not brave, and amy is obviously an intelligent girl...but i guess curiosity gets the better of her often, she did the same thing in the first ep when she opened and walked into the hidden door/room even though the Dr was screaming at her not to...

anyway, apart from that, i LOVE Matt as the DR and i love amy. i especially love their chemistry together.

I'm happy with the casting, I think they're doing well. I thought the second episode was rather weak, but it wasn't because of any problems with the performances.

I'm really enjoying the new Doctor and Amy so far. I wasn't sure what to expect from Matt Smith's Doctor and obviously couldn't gauge too much about the 11th Doctor's character from the first episode. I like his quirkiness though.

I think they're both really good. I didn't think the 2nd episode was spectacular but it was enjoyable and clever, which is more than I can say for the majority of Russell T. Davies' efforts. I like how the quality of the acting and writing seems to be on an equal par now, whereas in previous series David Tennant was a wonderful actor but got let down by the poor scripts he was given.

What I think is really interesting (and slightly unnerving...in a good way) about the new Doctor is that he really does seem to have become more alien.

Matt Smith is pretty good. He reminds me of Colin Baker (his face), Troughton (his acting), the actual character is just DT with bits added, which is annoying. Karen Gillan is a good companion, better than Series 2/4 Rose and Martha. A bit similar to Gwen Cooper though.

I really like Amy Pond, I think Karen G is doing a fanstatic job.

MS is a great actor and he's making the doctor his own but i'm still not sold on the eleventh Doctor, he's growing on me though.

Karen
I also think she has been very good. Enjioyed her performance in 'Eleventh Hour' a bit more than in 'The Beast Below'. I think she will be very good in later episodes.

What do you think of the new leading actors?”

I think they're both doing just fine...but then they're actors playing parts in a TV programme and as such have done pretty much what they've been asked to by writer, execs and director...
