Could an non-celeb "fairly" compete in the show?

A couple of years ago they put a member of the public in the celeb big brother house and she ended up winning the thing.

Could the same happen with this show if they put a member of the public in the competition?

Would he or she get votes based on the fact they represent us the viewers?

Would they fail to get votes because they aren't celebs and nobody knows or cares who they are?

Would the judges go easier on him or her because it could seem to be bullying to tell them they are rubbish week after week?
People tend to like seeing celebs getting made to look stupid and humiliated or taken down a peg or two but would they feel happy seeing a member of the public getting put down so much?

Could a non-celeb compete on this show and be treated the same by the viewers and the judges despite not being a celeb?

Discuss.

There are other dance contests for non-celebs! I always hated Big Brother as a concept and a show, but it got even more ridiculous when a non-celebrity went into the house. They became famous for no reason whatsoever, and given the amount of talent contests on TV today I don't think it's necessary at all.

I understand what you are saying, but the difference with it on here is they have to compete by learning a dance and not just sit around doing nothing trying to be "entertaining."
A lot of the popularity that person manage to generate will be gone because they would only be on screen at the centre of attention for about 8 minutes per week, not hours and hours daily. The show wouldn't be edited in a way to focus on them to manipulate the audience.

Potentially they could do a good dance but would it be enough to overcome the fact another contestant is popular as they are in Eastenders?
Also, unlike the CBB they don't have to get critiqued by a bunch of judges who supposedly are impartial and looking for who did the best dance.

Your first sentence is interesting though. If they had to cut costs and so ditched all the celeb contestants and made it members of the public with the pro dancers how many people would bother watching? Is the draw of the show the fact it's "a damce contest" or in reality is the draw of the show just another facet of "celeb obsession" that people have developed?

If they kept the show as it was with the only change is it's switched from celebs with the pros to members of the public with the pros I would still watch the show. It would still be a dance contest.

I would still watch it - to be honest I watch it for the pro dancers and not the celebs! And I would watch dance competitions as well if they weren't tucked away on digital channels I don't get!

But were a non-celebrity version to be made, I don't think it would be as popular - modern culture is far too celebrity obsessed. Surely Come Dancing in its original guise would still exist today if people still wanted to watch ordinary people dancing? Maybesome of the professionals are celebrities enough in their own right to sustain it for a series or two, but sadly the BBC seem to care far too much about celebrity - even Dancing on Wheels had to have celebrity participants - they could have found a non-celeb couple to go to the European championships - a professional able-bodied dancer would surely have meant a higher placing in the end whilst allowing the wheelchair dancers to further develop their technique - but there had to be that 'celebrity' element to the show.

It's a pity that dance competitions don't get more TV coverage, but the sad truth is it just wouldn't get enough viewers, and it's all about ratings these days
