As to the original point of this thread....
I think there were always going to be a vocal few who would loathe whatever SM came up with, just as there would always be some who would loudly proclaim that anything which wasn't RTD was by definition brilliant. For most though, I suspect that 2 episodes is way too soon to judge a whole Who era. So far there have been things in the first 2 episodes I have really liked and some I'm less sure of. There's been plenty though to make me look forward with excitement to the rest of the series!”

*Waves excitedly back*, it's nice to meet old friends on here.

I honestly think there is no Moff backlash, he will have some rubbish, average and brilliant stories (very much like RTD). I think the trick is not to assume that everyone criticising an episode does so because of Moff, and vice versa, not everyone who defends an episode is a Moff superfan. Some of us don't care who wrote which story, as long as it entertains us.

Unicorn and the Wasp is everything that Dr Who should not be.

What just like the fact that the Doctor shouldn't be anti-authority? If anyone new wanted to know what Doctor is about....you'd definitely be the last...actually you'll definitely be the only person I wouldn't advise them to ask! In fact they are better of asking a hermit who has never seen or even heard of Doctor Who!

But on a serious note....considering that if you just look at Classic Who only, and see the variety of the styles in story telling and stuff....is there really a proper way to that Doctor Who should be?

Yes I would argue that Dr Who should be more about "The Claws of Axos" or "Inferno" or "Arc of Infinty" or "The Caves of Andrezini".

And yet they are all very different to each other!

and what they have in commoon is that none of them are stupid, glib, facetious or silly.

Unlike Unircron and the WASP. Which is an abomination.

I'd say they were all stupid, glib, facetious and silly.

'The Caves Of Androzani', for example, is built upon the premise of bat poo that makes you live forever!

What Tim said!!!!

Doctor Who is great when it is silly! Another example from Inferno....when the Doctor tries to get the console to work...and look where he ends up....I doubt that was about sophisticated adult humour!!!

By silly I mean not taking the stories seriuosly.

Classic Who imbued every story with proper seriousness - there was none of the crassness and glibness associated with RTD's puerile product.

I completely agree - sure, you could describe episodes of 'Doctor Who' as glib, silly...whatever.

But that's not what 'Doctor Who' shouldn't be...that's actually what it *is*!

See my point of above! But as always.....you seem to have selective chioices and opinions....so much so that it is hard to take you seriously!!!

You clearly haven't watched much of the Classic Series...which is a shame - you should do, it's bloody great!

'Doctor Who' has been lampooning itself on a regular basis pretty much since 'The Romans' onwards, but I've read some pretty good essays arguing that the silliness kicked in far before.

That really doesn't make you any "better-er" a fan than someone who just joined in with "The Eleventh Hour" though...

99% of people's problems with your posts on here is when you think you speak for them or know more than them about what THEY want from Doctor Who...

Personally I much prefer episodes that don't take themselves seriously and you can have a laugh along with them on the way...does that make ME wrong?

I would hope not...

You are little more than a sad, tired old thing who clearly is in need of regeneration - you slide in here on your sludge, throw around bigotry and insults, you clearly have no concept of spelling, grammar or punctuation therefore the publications that have published your work are presumably drafted in crayon - dozens of pounds? Wow...you spend £24.00...£36.00...£48.00 searching for missing episodes? You sound a bit like Lord Percy searching for the Alchemist's dream of lead into gold...

I thought you'd watched a lot of Classic Who but obviously you've only seen selected stories if you honestly think that! Even going back as far as The Romans the story was NOT imbued with proper seriousness.
