Anyone have any moments in the show which came entirely out of the blue and you were not expecting to happen at all. Maybe a character death, or just a specific moment in an episode?

Well to see the Doctor shot in Stolen Earth was something I heard about so I was quite prepared to see that happen. However I was absolutely gobsmacked to see 10 start the regeneration process and I never saw that coming. And I could see no way (initially) that he would get out of it and I imagined all sorts of things would happen at the conclusion. It's something i'll never forget.

When Professor YANA opened the fob watch and became the Master. Why did the hairs stand up? - everything had fallen into place, the fob watch in Family Of Blood, and "You Are Not Alone".

Great writing - story arcs being used to effect. For me - RTD's finest moment.

Yes, I loved the Yana revelations in Utopia- definately RTD's finest plot arc. I also liked the Doctor regeneration in The Stolen Earth that was awesome.

My favourites though were when you were told that the Emperor Dalek did nothing, and that Bad Wolf was not part of his design. We had been expecting an explanation for Bad Wolf a week earlier in the episode called 'Bad Wolf'. But we didn't get it. We finally thought we were, and we were over half way through The Parting of the Ways and the Dalek that has been behind everything admits that Bad Wolf is not his! That was a shocking moment, and a little creepy. When Rose came storming back to Sattelite 5, with the TARDIS storming through the vortex at turbo speed, that was also hair raising!

As well as Professor Yana revelation - I thought the Doctor being asked in Family of Blood by the nurse "if you hadn't come here to hide, would these people have died?".

Also Sally Sparrow and the policeman ("I am young & you are hot") meeting again in the hospital, he says he has until the rain stops.

The Yana moment was gobsmacking.

Also, Richard Wilson and the gas mask. Really horrible.

From ye olde DW: the end of the first Vervoid episode, where the Doctor and Mel discover what is in the isolation room. Gives me the shivers even thinking about it.

The two most shocking/surprising moments for me were:

1) Captain Jack turning out to be the Face of Boe. I was like :O for about 5 minutes at the screen!

2) Rose appearing at the end of Partners in Crime. I knew she would be returning in series 4, but I had no idea it would be so quickly in the series, and so obviously! (to the viewer)

The YANA thing was good too :P

As far as I know it's not been confirmed though that Jack is the Face of Boe??? Yes his nickname was Boe and, Yes he's immortal - but it's not been confirmed:

Arrrrggghhh! I'm turning into a nit-picker like those on the Beast Below thread. Somebody put me out of my misery - please!!!!!!

As far as I know, nobody has officially confirmed that Jack is the Face of Boe...but I think it's quite safe to assume he is, because "The Face of Boe they called me!". I'd be quite disappointed if it turned out not to be Jack, I mean they seem to have different personalities, but I suppose over a few million years that could happen to anyone XD It's a nice thought that finally Jack gets to die properly if you know what I mean XD

I agree - waiting a whole week for the resolution to that was unbearable!

Definitely a great moment; and the following episode was great too, when the 'Mister Saxon' revelation became clear (On hindsight the fact that it is an anagram of 'Master No. Six' makes it seem really obvious, but at the time I was amazed at the sheer brilliance of it. It's even more awesome when you remember that in The Christmas Invasion Ten essentially initiated the previous PMs downfall - 'Don't you think she looks tired?' or something like that coming back to haunt him a year and a half later)

Stroke of genius that one, especially as they managed to keep it a secret until it was aired (like the regeneration sequence in the Stolen earth)

When Matt took his shirt off.

Nah, I'm joking

I really liked the whole of David's performance in Midnight. Especially near the end when he was back with Donna and he said "Allons-y" (I think?) and she repeated it, and he just went "No, don't do that, just don't". Brilliantly done.

Also, in Turn Left, Catherine was fantastic. The whole bit when she was in that mirrored thing was just goosebumps. Fantastic performance.

A bit of an odd one this, but the moment where the Doctor discovers Martha's flat is about to be bombed by the Master by turning the TV around...

Surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but without a doubt Wilf's four knocks in "The End of Time Part Two". Absolutely utterly spinetingling, despite the fact we've been expecting such a knock for 9 months...

Yes up there with the tops!!!!! Not once did I imagine it! The simplicity of it was just beautiful and heartbreaking!

Also as others have said the whole YANA, and also the Daleks in Army of Ghosts...before the days of the interent for me! lol
And the Stolen Earth regeneration, the reveal of there being no gun in four parts in LOTTL, the Face of Boe, Donna in Doomsday, The Titanic in LOTTL, Rose in PIC, the Dalek elevating in Dalek, The Doctor being eaten in Father's day, The Doctor's Time Lord Victorious in TWOM, The Master Race in EOT, the Time Lords, K9 in Journey's end, Bad Wolf in Turn Left, the "he will knock four times" in POTD, and the Song is ending in POTO, and the seer's comment on the Doctor being from Gallifrey in FOP.....

In The Empty Child, the bit where they're in the room and the tape runs out and they realise that Jamie is in the room with them, that scared the life out of me.

Another one was in Silence in the Library when Donna was transported to the TARDIS but then the CAL computer stole her and she screamed. Terrifying stuff....

When Rose was 'disintergrated' by the Anne-Droid in Bad Wolf. I still think they should have resolved that in th following episode and made us think that Rose was dead for a whole week.

Donna's ' Bad Wolf/Rose' dialogue in Turn Left.

It was amazing. I was like this:

Three moments where the hair on the back of my neck stood up, although none were shocking are -

The Sonic Screwdriver falling from the Doctor's cold dead hand in Turn Left,

All major characters hearing the Daleks ' Exterminate, Exterminate, Exterminate ...' for this first time in The Stolen Earth.

Donna's Bad Wolf monologue in Turn Left.

The first two didn't have the same effect in the actual episode though as I had watched both clips so mnay times.

Oooo, I forgot that one. That was one of the best bits, especially when Davros speaks to Sarah Jane.

This for me too. I did not expect that in a million years and it took me hours to calm down.

The Doctor-Donna also blew me away. Genius.

That really blew me away too. The DoctorDonna idea was purely genius and was a brilliant way for Donna to go.

Both of these points were brilliant. And in the Midnight one it was him saying "Molto Bene" I think. It was really one of those moments which gave me goosebumps. Catherine was fantastic in Turn Left, especially (as you said) in the mirror part and when she first saw the time beetle.
