Midnight and Blink were chilling, purely because of the unknown and the seeming innocence in which both episodes started.

The Doctor being shot in the Stolen Earth and him starting to generate was startling and probably the best single moment from New Who so far.

Turn Left was a pretty depressing episode, and I mean that in a good way. It's very interesting to see what would have happened if The Doctor wasn't alive to say Earth from The events, on the moon, or the titanic or the adipose, Atmos, all these little things that if allowed to happen would bring the whole world to chaos. Spirits are low, allies falling from Sarah Jane, Martha Jones to the Torchwood team. Then suddenly, when with the Rose, when Donna beat the "thing on her back", The Doctor is alive and all is well with the world again, she's so happy to see him she gives him a great big hug, and that always makes me happy to see.

Agreed.

Plenty of debate to be had in the meantime though. I loved being right when the Doctor didn't regenerate because at the time it was hard to believe despite all reason that he wouldn't

Definitely a great moment; and the following episode was great too, when the 'Mister Saxon' revelation became clear (On hindsight the fact that it is an anagram of 'Master No. Six' makes it seem really obvious, but at the time I was amazed at the sheer brilliance of it. It's even more awesome when you remember that in The Christmas Invasion Ten essentially initiated the previous PMs downfall - 'Don't you think she looks tired?' or something like that coming back to haunt him a year and a half later)

Stroke of genius that one, especially as they managed to keep it a secret until it was aired (like the regeneration sequence in the Stolen earth)”

Derek Jacobi: "I am The Master!"

Stunning in every respect.

Surprised no one as mentioned the return of the time lords at the end of TEOT pt 1? Yes it had been spoilerised and didn't live up to expectations in pt 2 - but that moment was grrrrrrrreat!

The revelation of the four knocks was the best thing in pt 2 though and the biggest shock since............

The biggest one of all

The death of Adric

back in the days when it really was a surprise - the idea of killing off a companion was unheard of (the dalek master plan notwithstanding as Adric was the first long running companion to be killed off) then too and it wasn't done just for the shock effect but was also perfectly done to suit the plot (which was sheer geniuis itself - the sacrifice was unavoidable - someone had to die..... ), not just a throwaway moment to get rid of a leaving cast member but a moment perfect in everyway = Adric's final line, underplayed in a way new who can only dream of. and The final scene of Earthshock: The Doctor, Tegan and Nyssa hugging together in the Tardis was heartbreaking....

More than anything else for me, Wilf's four knocks was the moment that made me gasp in shock and feel utterly surprised. It was just so heartbreaking, the resigned look on the Doctor's face and everything

I can't think of any others because unfortunately I'd read spoilers or rumours for lots of it that prevented the 'wow' factor. This series I'm trying to avoid that Although it was quite unexpected when Eleven had his first real shout with "Nobody human has anything to say to me today!" and I actually found that slightly upsetting

Also as others have said the whole YANA, and also the Daleks in Army of Ghosts...before the days of the interent for me! lol
And the Stolen Earth regeneration, the reveal of there being no gun in four parts in LOTTL, the Face of Boe, Donna in Doomsday, The Titanic in LOTTL, Rose in PIC, the Dalek elevating in Dalek, The Doctor being eaten in Father's day, The Doctor's Time Lord Victorious in TWOM, The Master Race in EOT, the Time Lords, K9 in Journey's end, Bad Wolf in Turn Left, the "he will knock four times" in POTD, and the Song is ending in POTO, and the seer's comment on the Doctor being from Gallifrey in FOP.....”

That is every single one of mine too. Also the Daleks emerging from the Void Ship, which I didnt know about prior to watching, and it was before I started coming on here.

I had gotten so wrapped up in the cybermen and their story that I had forgotten about the dalek return. Then there they were.

The first time - when I first saw the Daleks, during the first Dr Who of William Hartnell.

Actually that sink plunger about to molest Barbara was a little bit shocking...

The cloister bell ringing in "Turn Left" made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

although I don't really rate the episode, the wardrobe dad in Fear Her was a bit shocking when appeared. It seems rather daft in a way, but at its heart, its a very real story of a nasty man abusing his little daughter. Shocking in a bad way

When Lucius Dextrous says 'She is returning', that sent a shiver down my spine too. He put a bit of icing on the cake with 'Daughter of London, there is something on your back'.

Adric's death - I sat on the floor in silence for ten minutes!

The regenerated Master hijacking the Tardis at the end of Utopia- I was on the edge of my seat and shouting at he telly in frustration that the episode was about to end.

The Ninth Doctor's regeneration - I cried as well.

"Now I've done it," followed by the Eleventh Doctor's action theme. I actually like (most) of Murray Gold's output for the series.

The Cyberman at the top of the stairs in AoG remains vintage "behind the sofa" DW...

Also the Doctor realising it was Rose in the parallel world with Donna

'What did she look like?'
'She was..... blond'
'What was her name!?'
'I dunno'
'Donna, what was her name?!'
'But she told me.... to warn you. She said two words....'
'What two words? What were they, what did she say!?'

'Bad Wolf.'

Every hair on on hairy manly hands stood up!

I guess for me the Cloister Bell chiming in the Eleventh Hour as well - because it was so unexpected.

Yeah, I would agree with that - OK, I guess pretty much any time the cloister bell rings, is a pretty unexpected/hair-raising moment for me!

Hello.

Not so much hair-raising, as heart pulling - The Lottery Ticket gets me every time.

This also shocks me. I am 50 years old, generally not particularly emotional (not in a teary way, anyway). Why do I blub everytime?

See, now that didn't surprise me at all, because we'd already seen the Daleks do that in Remembrance of the Daleks in Classic Who. And to be honest, I got a bit pissed off with people banging on and on about it as if it was a brand new thing that the Daleks had never been able to do before.

(Same way I got pissed off about Christopher Ecclestone droning on about being the first Doctor to have a regional accent, as if Sylvester McCoy had never existed.)

Yes, I got annoyed with that too. But to all Classic Who fans who stopped watching prior to McCoy becoming the Doctor that was the case.

To be fair, Sylvester McCoy may have had a Scottish accent, but it was a well-spoken Scottish accent. I think Eccleston was actually saying he was the first Doctor with BROAD regional accent, which is true.

The entire final 20 minuets of Utopia (for me the finest moment in Who history)

The fake regen in The Stolen Earth, completely took me by surprise

The Doctors punishments in Family Of Blood.

The Doctor going slightly mental in Waters of Mars.

Wilf's four knocks

Midnight

My strange ones, neither shocking nor unexpected but still made the hairs stand up.

Harriet Jones’ TV plea to The Doctor in ‘the xmas invasion’

Donna’s ‘Now I understand’ speech in Turn Left. (1st rate acting and dialouge)

When the Doctors hologram turns to Rose/us in Parting Of The Ways.

Old Who.

Probably Peri’s death scene, there is, imo, something slightly unnerving about it.

Oh how could I forget - When we see the montage of everyone (well nearly) who died in the Doctor's name but again it wasn't shocking.

That bit was immense. As soon as the Master sacrificed himself I said "its gonna be Wilf, its gonna be Wilf." And then when Wilf knocked i was a blubbering mess lol
