I don't think they appear in the show in those colours, the red, yellow and blue are just to represent the Tories, Labour and Liberals because of the upcoming election.

They are reminiscent of the Peter Cushing movie Daleks though.

From the next week trailer they look pretty much the same in design as the ones in series 1-4, except for the military green ones.

To be fair, you really need to see them in the correct colour scheme:

The white one is definitely in it - you can see him in the 2010 Series trailer.

People in the know on Gallifrey base are also saying that the Yellow, Blue and Red ones are in it but I kind of agree that they may have been photoshopped in those colours because of the election.

I agree....the cover is done in the same way as the Dalek 2005 elecetion cover...which I have to admit is better. But these are cool too...

No Green Dalek?

Wanting to bring about a Master race, Extermination policy...surely the Daleks are BNP material.

After all they have just been forced to relax their membership criteria (the BNP that is, not the Daleks ).

I love how you can see the green paint over the old bronze colour scheme there...

The Concept of a yellow "liberal" dalek is hilarious.

"I'm not an evil, mass murdering, emotionless world conquering alien being....

I'm an expansionist economic migrant, with issues around expressing my feelings ...... and vapourising people...."

I like them. The red and yellow ones look cool, but the blue ones a mess. Only the white one will be in it though.

Not according to those that have seen the episode!

Apparently all four colours are in the episode, but the colours are a bit more muted than they appear on the Radio Times covers.

I fully expect the red one for example, to be the same colour as the Supreme Dalek from The Stolen Earth/Journey's End.

That's because the new Daleks don't appear in the trailer but the "old" ones do.

This week's TV & Satellite Week has the coloured Daleks, too.

It says the colours correspond as follows:

Red: Drone
Orange: Scientist
White: Supreme
Blue: Strategist
Yellow: Eternal

The article also says they are taller than previous Daleks.

I hate this. The Dalek design is iconic, it should never be significantly altered. I can't help thinking they've only done this to flog more toys.

I can't see that it has been significantly changed. It has always changed somewhat throughout Doctor Who. In the classic series the colour changed often.

I agree, it will mean they can produce more toys, but had the BBC been more merchandise savvy back during the classic series, they would have produced a lot of toys.

I'm glad of a change as I was never too keen on the series 1-4 Daleks. The new ones remind more of the classic look.

AFAIK they are the new Daleks for Moffat's era of Doctor Who.

I have a feeling that the RTD style Daleks won't make it to the end of the episode.

Someone on Gallifrey Base posted this earlier. The first pic is from a Ron Turner TV21 1960's Dalek comic strip:

The second is the new Dalek design:

http://www.radiotimes.com/content/fe.../mainImage.jpg

Notice the similarities? The eye-stalk, earlamps, base, shape, colour etc are all HEAVILY borrowed from this comic strip.

I'm guessing that Moffat read this comic when he was a nipper and decided to use it as his 'definitive' Dalek design.

So you could say its less of a new aleration as going back to a previous version.
