Don't like that colour coding! Dalek Supreme should always be black and patrol leaders should be red. Red Daleks shouldn't be drones!! Have Gattiss and Moffat never read TV21?!!

I assume the new Daleks won't appear until at least half way through the episode, if not later. Wouldn't have thought they'd introduce the new design for just 20 minutes so very likely they'll be back later in the series.

Notice the similarities? The eye-stalk, earlamps, base, shape, colour etc are all HEAVILY borrowed from this comic strip.

I'm guessing that Moffat read this comic when he was a nipper and decided to use it as his 'definitive' Dalek design.

So you could say its less of a new aleration as going back to a previous version.”

That first one doesn't look like a Ron Turner piece, to me-unless he was having a serious off day. I have the Dalek Chronicles on a disc somewhere, but I'm sure I've never seen that image before.

That's disappointing if true. Too cartoony for my taste.

Old Series Colourings (AKAIK):

Black/Grey: Drones
Silver: Scientists
Red: Saucer Commander
Black: Leader
Gold/Black: Special Operations Leader (timelines etc)
Gold/Black/Silver: Supreme
Black/Blue/ Silver: Guards
Black/Yellow/Blue: Emperor

We already know from the new trailer that more than one RTD dalek makes an appearance. How can we be sure that these aren't simply Churchill's Daleks?

Still rather fab that following on from the "Oh no not another Dalek story" threads from earlier in the year, this weekend's outing is generating so much excitement and so many threads...I guess, that "overused" or not, you just can't keep a good pepperpot down

Churchill's 'Ironside' Daleks look exactly like the RTD Daleks, except they have been sprayed olive green, have the Union Jack on their name tag (under the Eyestalk) and are wearing WWII-style military webbing (flak jackets) around their mid-section.

The new 'technicolor' Daleks do not turn up until later on in the episode.

But in the trailer, we see at least two Gold RTD Daleks, which (I assume) means that they do not encounter Churchill...

These pictures remind me why I want to become a Dalek.

I am very excited about the new Dalek story but these different colour Daleks are going to confuse me. I am still getting to grips with the Emperor and Supreme Dalek and their heirarchy system via the Dalek Chronicles.

I'm guessing that these two gold Daleks are simply working 'behind the scenes', whilst the Khaki 'Ironsides' create the false facade that they are working for Churchill.

Using the resources of the WWII British Govt, the Daleks create a some kind of Dalek factory which is used to produce the new Daleks later on.

Mark Gatiss has said that this story pays tribute to one of his favourite Dalek stories - Power of the Daleks. Most of what I've written above would go along with this.

Indeed. "I am your servant" in Power, "I am your soldier" in Victory.

Also, is it more than a co-incidence that Power is featured in the latest DWM?

Perhaps it's a reference to the 'red shirts' (security guards) in Star Trek? They were effectively 'drones' and were usually the first to be killed off.

Isn't that a polite 21st Century way of saying "plagiarism" or "rehashing" along with homage and oh bugger, I need a story and I've got writer's block

Is it only me who likes them? As long as they somehow get rid of the old dalek design. Would this mean they don't need permission from the Terry Nation Estate thingy anymore, so we don't need to include the daleks once a year, or did they need the TNE's permission, like they did with the Supreme in 'TSE'?

Didn't see much peace around in "Remembrance..." so we should be okay

No, because the Terry Nation estate don't own the design of the Daleks-the BBC do, as they were designed by Ray Cusick, an in-house designer. What the Nation estate own is the name and concept of the Daleks, so the BBC can redesign them all they like (though the estate would likely complain if they went too far) but they'd still need permission to actually use them.

Who profits most from Dalek merchandise - the Terry Nation Estate or the BBC? Whichever, I'm sure they are rubbing their hands with glee at the prospects of loads of new toy sales of the new Dalek design.

Cynical? Moi?

I like them but didn't much like RTD's use of them. The Dalek-human hybrid in the Manhattan episode was utterly stupid. They were good in The Stolen Earth but then became ridiculous in Journey's End, getting spun about by remote control, etc.

They joint-own them (50-50). Even though it's a sore point for many that the profits have always been mostly due to the iconic design and the one person who should have made a fortune out of them never did

Not liking the new ones, think they've strayed a bit too far but they might look better on screen and moving (remember what everyone thought of the first static picture of the Cybus cybermen...)

Agreed, that's extremely wrong.

I'm still wondering why they didn't spend the money on re-designing the Cybus Cybermen instead of the Daleks which, let's be honest, were perfect as they were.
