Heh - don't worry about it. The Spider Dalek idea isn't well liked ...........

BTW, new name for the new Dalek design - Smarties Daleks.

They're straight from the Hartnell/Cushing era.

Dalek-Hippies.

Yeah, Hippies works too, but I prefer Smarties.

The new ones look too top-heavy around the shoulder section (the black bumper ring which has the gun and arm incorporated).

I wonder if they took their design cues from the Dapol toy daleks that were out of proportion?

The problem with saying that is you haven't seen how they look on screen yet, you can only tell so much from a magazine picture. Furthermore, people on GB who have seen this episode think they are fantastic in the episode, and not in the least bit cartoony at all.

But as ever thats the way with fandom: an out of context audio clip leads people to assume Matt Smith is going to be the worst Doctor ever, the fact Catherine Tate is well known for comedic parts meant she was going to be the worst companion ever, and now some fans have, based on one picture from the RT decided that they are going to hate the new look daleks. Fandom never learns from it's mistakes.

The large thing behind the gun and plunger is stupid, but the rest is cool. I would also like spider daleks. ...

I meant the new design. And I agree with what you said, but there was a lot of other things wrong with DIM. (Pig People?!)

Can't think of a single good thing to say about the dreadful Daleks in Manhattan two parter. It really was atrocious and a complete waste of the Daleks. As for the Dalek hybrid ........

It's funny how I only ever get told "you can only tell so much from a picture" when I don't like something. Praise the Doctor's costume and the TARDIS from grainy mobile phone pictures and that's all fine an' dandy but dare to criticise something...

Where has anyone in this thread said they're going to hate the new Daleks?

Wow! That's some circular logic!

One thing I said to myself when I heard that they were redesigning the daleks was, please not the retro original hartnell/cushing hooped dalek...and guess what, that is exactly what they've done.

DOn't like it, I think it looks too namby pamby. The others looked like they could handle themselves, these look more 1st Batallion of the Camp Dalek Army!

WOnt stop me watching and enjoying it tho, just dont like the design!

This will make the 5th time the fundamental Dalek design has changed (I was up last night going through each story in my head ) What surprised me was how often the design changed, on avergae every 3-4 stories...

What I don't entirely understand (though maybe it will be explained) is a. how Daleks, without hands and a real ability to use tools etc, are able to build new daleks and b. why would they look to change themselves cosmetically?

There would have to be a scientific/battle-minded justification for any change. Further, given they see in blue through their eye-stalk, why on earth/Skaro, would they be concerned about being lovely little colours? (unless their plan is to infiltrate through being sold in multiple options in toy stores)

They look awesome in my opinion.

Restoration of the Daleks indeed. RTD used Doomsday to keep their arc going - this is Moff's I suppose.

If the Daleks are 'restored' in this episode and have a continued presence, albeit on the far side of the universe, there should be less complaints about the Daleks being wiped out then all coming back again.

Mind you, it could just be an episode about Daleks taking over the world, plus tea.

Which would also be good.

I don't care how radical the redesign is as long they still have the ability to simultaneously unblock the sink and whip up an omelette.

I thought the look of the Daleks was greatly enhanced when draped with a nude Katy Manning (was she related to Bernard?)

The new models don't have a blue coloured iris, so perhaps they have upgraded their vision systems to see more than just monochrome.
