Foyle`s War ITV HD 11/04/10

I noticed at luchtime today that the Humax was recording something. I pressed the stop button to see what it was and it said do you want to stop the recording of Foyle`s war ? I stopped it and looked in media and now have an episode of Foyle`s war lasting 1101 minutes. Yes, eighteen hours and twenty minutes. I assume it started late due to the football overun but the beginning is spot on so the start signal went out. Did they forget to send out a stop signal or has my machine missed it ? My HDD is now 66% full, from about 22% prior to that. That`s the original 320 gig Hard drive by the way in case anyone wants to calculate how much space ITV`s new HD channel recordings take up. Anyone else had this problem ?

Well at least you have the end the overrunning football meant everything was late starting

I started the record on the Humax with about 45 mins to go of the prog..
One single press of record and it then recorded to the actual finish of the programme..
Whereas the Panny ceased to record some 18mins before the programmme actually finished..
At least there is a facility to stop it over recording your other progs when such horrible events like this happen..

I read this while I was at work yesterday and was expecting to get home and find that the HD of the HDR was virtually full with the box still recording!
Luckily I'm glad to report that it recorded as intended, just the 2 hour slot.

Because of the muck up I couldn't record Lumley or a program on Saxon treasure.

Did it? How far did it overrun?

I recorded it on my Sky HD box and even though I have zero padding before/after I got the whole thing. Picked it up just in time to hear the announcer say what it was so perfect timing.

Could this be a rare example where ITV actually updated the Sky EPG? Maybe they are starting to up their game.

It was a pity about the picture though. Too much grain and the colours were muted. What is it with the BBC and ITV? They both seem to like grainy, bland pictures for their dramas.

B****y football strikes again!

I was watching the golf in HD, recording BBC1 on Channel 951 and also recording Foyle on ITV1 HD. I always use manual padding of 1min pre- and 5mins post padding as I've had far too many failures with the Auto recording system. So of course I lost the last 10 mins of Foyle, but fortunately was able to catch up online. Clearly, ITV didn't update the EPG or else the recording would have worked (like it did last Tuesday when the BBC1 programme scheduled at 22:35 was moved to 22:45 - the EPG was changed and my timer schedule adjusted itself accordingly).

It's such a bummer that the programme start/end signalling system is so unreliable that it makes it unusable. Still, it was no better with PDC on the old analogue broadcasts.

Less of the 'OLD' please Geoff..
Down here ..near the very capital of the Country..
those analogues are STILL the mainstream TV channels for millions..for some years to come..
Obviously a long time since you typed in a VIDEO-CODE number

Well, here in Nottingham we don't switchover until 2011, but I haven't used an analogue recording system for many years (Topfield and Humax pvr's).

However, my brother-in-law still uses an analogue video recorder which uses PDC, and only the other day he was complaining that a recording he made on Ch. 4 cut off before the end. That's something I remember well from my VCR days. It's just a shame that nothing has changed in the digital domain with Accurate Record!

Yep, same problem here. Set up a recording for Foyle's War HD and it kept recording until the disk filled up.

Mine recorded fine 20:15-22:15 scheduled and actual. Interestingly it's flagged as a failed recording presumably because of a clash and missed a few seconds of the start. It starts with a full screen ITV HD logo though and is otherwise intact
