I take no credit for this - I've been inspired by threads throwing around names like Freddie Mercury, Walter Bishop and so on. It would be nice to have it all in one place, so, which historical figures would you like to see the Doctor meet?

Emperor Nero would make an interesting story line. A bit mad, ruthless, nasty brutal with some dark secrets to hide which explain his evil depraved behaviour.

Leonardo Da Vinci. he is being fed advanced technology for some plan to build some kind of device to open up a portal or homing beacon to enable aliens to infiltrate or invade earth. Despite Leonardo having his memory wiped, he still remembers things which results in his amazing ideas we see today.

Florence Nightingale would be good as well.

My 20th century picks would be:

* Freddie Mercury
* Peter Sutcliffe - aka the Yoksgire Ripper!
* TS Eliot
* Enoch Powell

all would be fascintaintg

As for historical people from further back:

* Bodicea
* Alexander the Great
* Martin Luther
* General Gordon of Khartoum fame
* Wellington
* Nelson
* Laurence Olivier or Harry Lauder.

With Moffat now in charge, we'll probably see a Jack the Ripper story down the line somewhere.

Or how about a Sherlock Holmes & Professor Moriarty story?

Elvis Presley.. in a story like Bubba Ho-Tep.

The Yorkshire Ripper would be more interesting and scary.

The banality of evil is often terrifying more than Victorian fogs, hackney cabs, and narrow alleys.

You'd never have a story like that. As he and his victims are still alive.

If that's story worthy, then why not Ian Brady and Myra Hindley?

Never going to happen.

There have been plenty of TV dramas about the Yorkshire Ripper already - I dont thnk they have to be dead to have shows made about them. Having Dr Who investigating would be interesting.

[/i] I think programmes about child murderers etc would be unsuitable for a family audience, however, so no Myra Hintley and Ian Brady should not feature.

I dont think theres a problem having stories featuring other famous murderers however, Crippen, 10 Rillington Place etc.
It would be a good way to introduce these fascinating but macabre stories to a younger audience.
