One of them puts up with it She lets out a little mew and a tiny struggle when she's had enough.

The other one - forget it. I'd probably lose an eye if I went for a big cuddle

If you pick her up, she immediately goes rigid, so I only pick her up slightly off the floor and give her a kiss, she doesn't mind that too much.

Strange as she's the total lap cat who sleeps on our bed every night and the other one likes her own space.

Our cats like to be picked up only when it suits them. If we get wrong then you would think we have never met before but when it is ok for them they sit and purr and if they see one of the other cats they glare at them and then put their noses up in the air. I think cats consider us as their personal slaves.

Saw the cutest cat cuddle at my friend's house recently. They took on a 3rd hand kitten last year and luckily he is a bold little beggar as they have 3 boisterous kids. Anyway, the little girl went to fetch kitty to show me and came back dangling him in her arms, so he was stretched out full length dangling down. He had a resigned look on his face but didn't struggle and apparently never scratches even when sorely provoked. Cute.

One of my boys will tolerate being picked up and cuddled for about a minute especially if I have been out for a while. He is a lap cat anyway and loves to sit on my lap kneading. My other boy dislikes being picked up and will turn into a bag of water if I try and pick him up. He rarely sits on my lap though will sit next to me, but he will snuggle next to me at night on my bed whilst the other one is relegated to the end of the bed.

Bobby loves a nice cuddle after a 12-hour jaunt and since having his knackers done loves his belly rubbed.

Henry and Dexter (Ragdoll and Ragdoll/Maine Coone cross) insist on being picked up and will pester us until we do - especially if you have just come back from being out of the flat. They then stretch out across my arms or sit across my shoulders and purr and rub their faces against mine and nuzzle inside my ears!

At night they come under the duvet and flop against or try to sit on top of myself or my wife and purr very loudly

I think it's that cats like to decide whether they want to do something or not and picking them up takes the decision-making away! I will ask Emily if she wants to sit on my lap and she'll just look away. A minute later after thinking about it she'll chirp and jump up on my lap. They are very independently minded!”

I'm sure that is because it has to be her idea, not yours! Holly is the same!

Holly doesn't mind being picked up at all - she is quite happy to be picked up by anyone ***. But she can't bear tummy rubs - not even from me.

*** providing she's not in the middle of some kitty mission!

My two love a cuddle, when they want it though, which is most of the time. One loves to be held like a baby on her back and have her tummy tickled, the other will often jump up on to my shoulder and then nuzzle my neck.

Both like to get on the bed when I go to bed and then roll over and have their tummy rubbed, they both also like haveing their paws rubbed as well. Cunning little sods they get what they want when they want and I am sure they look at each other and smile thinking they have got one over on me.
