Interesting idea!

Don't need a spoiler. Just discuss theories!

I wonder how the Spitfires get into space.

Given the new design in this week's Radio Times I'd say we're going to see a new interpretation (or perhaps a reworking of an old interpretation) of Daleks in this era.

Although I love GOTD, I agree with many who say that Davros's continued appearances turned the Daleks into little more than henchman rather than a race in their own right bent on their own aims of destruction...I have a feeling that ViotD may well be a gateway into a different feeling series of Dalek stories over the coming years.

Just a thought but could it not just be shot against a cloudless sky with the Dalek ship a la those attacking Manhattan in TSE? Or is there a longer segement that I've missed as I don't recall the Earth from Space in any of the background shots...mind you, with Hitler developing rocket technology for the V2's it isn't out of the realms of possibility that they are in space...

...sorry, what am I thinking? This is Doctor Who: nothing is out of the realms of possibility

It's been common knowledge that the Daleks were based on the Nazis.

So maybe in this story they've taken that idea literally and the Daleks really are originated from Nazis?

I'd be more interested in how they got the 'Spitfires' to sound like they do in the vacuum of space.

Forget the piffling Licence Fee, I would pay real money to see a bunch or renegade new Daleks head back to Skaro, affect the development of the Kaled race based on a Nazi blueprint thus inspiring Davros to put such values into the Daleks who would then evolve to finally become new Daleks who would head back to Skaro...

Cheers for the capture: I can offer no theories though over and above the rocket technology...

That would create quite an interesting time loop.
Skaro create Daleks which later went on to land on earth and were reborn with Nazi values, who then went back to Skaro's past to before Daleks were created, Skaro create Daleks based on these Dalek things that just dropped out of the sky through a crack in time.....and so on.

A bit like which came first, the chicken or the egg?

I think there is a bubble around the Spitfires, hence why they are in space. If you look closely at the trailer you can see it.

Correct, although it's not made of fairy liquid and water.

as I recall from the opening part of the last episode, the Doctor said something about extending the air shell of the TARDIS so Amy could float around outside - perhaps it's an adaptation of that ?

Oh yes. Excellent idea! I wonder how the Spitfires actually get into space itself. Maybe on a rocket?

Anyway, having watched the trailer numerous times I'm now convinced that this will be the episode where Matt Smith becomes a legendary Dr!

Just posted this in another thread

When the Doctor hits that chap next Saturday (and I assume it is Bracewell the "inventor" of the Daleks) the trailer I have sen has a distinct

clang as if he has hit something metal

Perhaps Bracewell is a

robot or even a roboman, given that SM seems to quite like the Cushing films - as in TARDIS and new Dalek designs

And def looking forward to Spitfires in space

Tardis? Cushing? It has the same link to Hartnell.

But the Moff explicitly said that the new TARDIS design was based on Cushings "because it was pretty"

I am especially fond of the little black-out covers that the army Daleks have on their 'ears':

are you talking about the audio tape? Because if so you'll see the way he says it in the episode is nothing like that whatsoever.
