Star wars Screen wipe?
Gordie1
12-04-2010
Did anyone catch during the last episode, a cut between scenes features a sideways screenwipe like in the star wars films.

Is moffat a Big Star wars fan?, and can we see more "homage's" to Star wars?

HE also used the line, 'help me ( Doctor) you're our only hope'.

As long as Jar Jar Binks does'nt turn up-that would be going too far.

Yes, it was near the end, where we see the Dr standing alone in front of that vast window looking out onto the stars.

The robes worn by the crew/smilers were similar to the Jedi robes and, actually, come to think of it, the new sonic screwdriver looks a little like a light sabre, perhaps Amy is a princess orphaned by the time war, or do I just need to get more sleep?

That last episode had sci fi references coming out of its ears. I'd love to see a full list.

Remember what you said here! I think Amy isn't what she seems and Leadworth is too perfect!

Princess? Gallifrey is a Republic! She's nothing to do with the Time War.

Actually, re-watch the first episode, and get to the bit where The Doctor and Amy are listening to the loud speakers, as the Doctor walks off and spins back to Amy, it's very Jar-Jar

Vader's body burning on a pyre
=
Master's body burning on a pyre

Close-up of Luke Skywalker looking solemnly at the flames, holding the torch
=

It looks pretty much identical! Except for the cut to dancing Ewoks.

Anyone else felt that the Scene where The Doctor and Amy land on the Star Whale's tongue was very reminiscent of the Death Star trash compactor scene in 'A New Hope'?Or has this been mentioned elsewhere?

Not only that, there was a scene in Empire Strikes Back where they take refuge in a cave only to find out that it was a big, giant, space, sock puppet-like whale thing's mouth.

Loads more Star Wars references this week - couple of major ones were man who created the Daleks hand being shot off and him wearing a black glove and the space fight and big Dalek ship being destroyed similar to the way the destroyed the death star/new death star (i.e. a main reactor in the middle after taking the sheilds down).

Yep, both very glaring "homages" to Star Wars.

Maybe that's the arc?

You do all realise, of course, that the attack on the Death Star in Star Wars was heavily influenced by the Dam Busters.

Very often the original source is not as clear as we might think. For example, whilst the Magnificent Seven was based on the Seven Samurai, Kurosawa said that he drew his inspiration for the film from watching John Ford westerns.

Actually, when you look at this clip from Star Wars, it does look quite a lot like 633 Squadron.

I do believe the White Dalek will reveal in episode 12 that he is actually the Doctor's father.

"I dunno what it is, but when I kiss you it's like I'm kissing my brother."

The Doc then runs off to find his TARDIS reconfigured to look like a DeLorean. He calls out 'Great Scot!' and Amy responds.
