Yes, GoTD is so full of padding that I found it almost unwatchable!

Dalek is a great story - but for me Remembrance is a classic. I have never quite got why Genesis is so well regarded... it's good but I don't avidly re-watch it.

Not sure where you got this idea from as we were told Davros was "killed" during the first year of the Time War.

To me that suggests he was involved in it from the begining and not brought in at a later time to help the losing Daleks.

As to the best Dalek story will have to go with Genesis though I do have fond memories of Day of the Daleks as it was the first Dalek story I ever saw.

Definitely The Dalek Invasion of Earth, though The Chase and Dalek are both pretty good. With the exception of Dalek, I don't think any of the later Dalek stories are as good as the sixties ones, really. I enjoyed the last five classic series ones, but they were really more Davros stories than Dalek stories-as soon as he was created, the Daleks became just background characters.

I agree Genesis has some awesome moments; every moment with the Doctor and Davros is superb and the Doctor's moral quandry with the wires is now legondary in the show's mythology, but the episode as a whole is stuffed with too much escape/recapture and padding. Would have benefited, I think, from losing one or two episodes.
I liked Dalek and the Stolen Earth really showed the Daleks as the unstoppable killers they are. Also enjoy pretty much all of the Davros episodes ("unlimited rice pudding!") Can't wait for Saturday!

Wow, I agree with Poppycod! Dalek Masterplan best by far. Evil was good with the Emperor (why did we then get such a crap Emperor in Parting of the Ways?). Genesis is very overrated, as is Power (what a let down after Masterplan). Revelation and Remembrance also very good. Army of Ghosts 2 parter best of modern Who. Day is very underrated. The Chase, whilst overall very shoddy, has some great moments. The Daleks firing on the Tardis at the end of Episode 2. The story continuing after the end of Episode 2 with the Doctor and co back in the Tardis - first time this had ever happened. And the sublime Episode 6 with the Mechanoids.

Agree that was a great ending to the episode, but do think RTD missed a trick by introducing the Cybermen so early in the episode. Just think what an ending it would have been if the Cybermen had been revealed with 3 minutes to go with everyone thinking that was the end of the episode and then the Daleks arrived a couple of minutes later!

But having said this, the ending of "Army of Ghosts" was surpassed by the ending of Episode 4 of "The Space Museum". That really was a shock!

Wow, and now I'm agreeing (partly!) with tingramretro! Agree about the first two, not so sure about Dalek - haven't watched it for a while but it didn't stand out at the time, didn't like the whole suicide ending.

At last-someone else who appreciates The Chase!

Genesis
Dalek
Death to Dalekes
Day of Daleks (first person to mention it - It was my first VHS release in 1985 and I loved it ever since).

I would go with Daleks' Master Plan, Power of the Daleks and The Chase in a three-way tie... although Power holds more interest for me as a Second Doctor story than as a Dalek story.

I do still give Power credit for a chilling cliffhanger when the Dalek keeps saying 'I... am... your... ser-VANT' as the Doctor keeps uselessly shouting at everyone not to trust it.

Just can't beat the Sixties Daleks.

How I wish the internet and this forum had been around when Genesis of the Daleks aired...can you imagine the kafuffle amongst fans about such flagrant rewriting of Who history by the very man that created them...blimey we'd have been here for decades

Oh and Day of the Daleks is a fab concept padded out flagrantly by Pertwee's love of those damned quad bikes whilst Death to the Daleks is again a fab concept but by the time those slow-drawling Daleks have got the word "Ex-ter-min-ate" out any sensible prey would have have been half way to the next star system

'Genesis Of The Daleks' is my favourite.

'Dalek' is next. One of the best stories of Series 1 of the new series. Christopher Eccleston was brilliant in it as well.

Day of the Daleks might have been under-rated, but it was a bit ludicrous that they only used 3 Daleks in the whole story and tried to make it look like they were using more!

I liked the actual story and I liked the Ogrons, but 3 daleks was a bit lame.

I entirely agree. However, lots of other Dalek stories suffered from lack of Daleks. They even used toy Daleks in Planet to look like a Dalek army!

For me it has to be Jubilee. Followed by Daleks invasion of Earth the Dalek

that was merely an efficient use of available resources. Why spend half your budget on extra props when you can send Kevin the tea boy down to Woolworths for a crate full of Rolykin Dalek toys? They also nicked the Dalek Supreme in the same story from Terry Nation's front garden where it had been sitting since the sixties Dalek movies.

I think Genesis is a bit overrated, and Evil is crap (soundtrack and book).

Best:

1. Invasion of Earth
2. Revelation
3. Remembrance

They don't get a huge amount to do in Revelation, but are all the more scary for it. They lurk in the background and occasionally come forward just to exterminate someone. They are very well directed, too: the eyestalk pokes into the edge of shot sometimes; there's Dalek shadows everywhere. Outstanding.

I've not seen Revelation for a long while and aside from Alexei Sayle's pointless stint can only really remember the glass dalek...on the shadow front though, quite right as is proven yet again in the trailer for next week - a much more chilling image than had the Dalek been in full view!

Resurrection of the Daleks hasn't got a mention yet, so obviously not a fave. I found the opening of that quite menacing with the dodgy policemen with guns. The rest of the story's a bit pants though.

As someone who has returned to Who after watching Pertwee and Baker, can some post a complete list of the Dalek stories. I would love to view them in the correct order.
Thanks
