According to BBC Soap News:

EastEnders has claimed victory over arch rival Coronation Street at the British Soap Awards.
The BBC soap took home seven awards, including the coveted title of Best Soap, while ITV's Coronation Street won five.
Shane Richie won best actor for his role as Queen Vic landlord Alfie Moon, while Nigel Harmon (Dennis Rickman) won sexiest male and best newcomer, and Jessie Wallace (Kat Moon) won sexiest female.
Natalie Cassidy (Sonia Jackson in the EastEnders) won best dramatic performance by a young actor or actress.
But Suranne Jones won a big prize for Coronation Street when she was named best actress for her role as feisty Karen McDonald.
And the Street won best storyline for Tracy Barlow's attempts to sell her baby to the Croppers and her bombshell announcement at Steve and Karen's wedding.
Kate Ford, who plays Tracy won the award for soap bitch of the year.
Villain of the year was Charlie Brooks, who plays EastEnders' Janine Evans - who killed husband Barry and is now being framed for the murder of Laura.
ITV soap Emmerdale took home three prizes including best dramatic performance for Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle.
His screen wife Sheree Murphy (Tricia Dingle) won best exit for her dramatic death during a freak storm which hit the village.

I'm really surprised that Eastenders won best soap instead of Coronation Street, because over the past year I think Corrie has been better. I also wouldn't have voted Nigel Harman the sexiest male neither. But the other awards are probably about right.

Exactly! The public and the press have all been complaining about EE over the past year, yet it wins Best Soap! Its obvious multiple voting has been going on and all the 'Shannis' and Dennis lovers have voted in thier hundreds!

Can't believe EE won best soap! Corrie has been miles better, but i'm glad Corrie won some serious awards like best actress and EE won the sexiest awards, which mean little really.

All the press say EE is carp but the public vote it best soap, so it can not be all carp as the public would not have vote it best soap.

Its obvious its all the teen girl Shannis/Dennis lovers who voted in their hundreds, clearly by looking at the sexiest award winners! Dennis and Kat won! Doesn't that say something!?

Corrie's Rita (Barbara Knox) won the Lifetime Achievement award!

The only award EastEnders deserved was 'Villain of the Year'. Nothing else happened in EastEnders over the past year that is worth mentioning, not even Den's return. And if Eastenders has characters as ridiculous as Mickey, as annoying as the Ferreiras or actresses as appalling as Scarlett Johnson, who plays Vicki, then how could they possibly have won 'Best Soap'?

I completely agree Cora!

I can't believe Sam Aston who plays Chesney never won Best Young Actor/Actress! How old is Natalie Cassidy?! About 20?!

EastEnders winning is just a joke! It is by far the worst of the big 3 and way behind Coronation Street in terms of writing, acting and good storylines.

WHAT THE HELL!

This will confirm to the gullable BBC bosses that Louise Berridge is doing her job well........WHEN SHE ISNT!

Complete and utter JOKE. But I was expecting it. The amount of people voting in these is so minimal compared to the huge audience figures they get, and all the flaming Kat & Alfie fans come out in force. Jessie Wallace Sexiest Female AGAIN? Shoot me now, really please DO...

Nice for Emmerdale to get more than the usual one, though

In saying this, I do not mean to offend Jessie Wallace:

Kat Moon is NOT sexy. I feel sick everytime I hear that horrible, loud voice and everytime I see her squeezed into an outfit that wouldn't fit a woman HALF her size. She wears more make-up than Bet Gilroy, Pat Evans and Chastity Dingle COMBINED.
Yet, we're supposesd to believe that both Alfie and Andy, two men who could have nearly any woman they wanted, find that slapper attractive. Andy's got Sam, probably the best looking girl in Walford and he wants to sleep with that tramp.

Kat is about as sexy as her grandmother, Mo, so please will you STOP nominating her as Sexiest Female

LOL! I have to agree with that! I don't find her sexy in the slightest!

This is a complete joke! It has to be some kind of fix, everyone on these forums thinks EE has sucked over the past year. The tabloids are slagging it off, yet it wins best soap! There is defiantly vote rigging going on here. And how the hell is Natalie Cassidy best young actress??? She has had no decent stroylines and she's got to be to old for that award now?The only award it deserved was best villain for Janine.

A bloody fix and a disgrace! Glad to see Suranne Jones win best actress though. She deserves that!

I've always felt those awards are a bit like - well, we want to give you an award but we're not sure how we can

Corrie could win that every year with alot of its actors being on it for years.

Shane Ritchie won it last year. What does that say?!?

I like Nigel Harman and I'm certainly not a teen girl and alot of people I know and work with like him too. Dont presume that the only people who like him are the young uns!

Hmmmm I'm glad that Corrie won such a "serious award" as Soap Bitch of the Year too.

and yet it's only one of the "big 3" that makes me want to switch my telly on.

I think i heard somewhere that Shane Richie let rip about Leslie Grantham when he received his award. Did anyone else hear that or did i dream it?

Well Done Eastenders!! Just what I predicted, although they did deserve more!

I like Natalie Cassidy, I think she's tremendous as Sonia Jackson, but could someone explain to me how she won best dramatic performance by a young actor or actress? She's 21 in a matter of days (13th May according to imdb), surely too old to win? I was surprised she was even nominated in that category.
