I know they are ''supposed'' to be in Australia but I have not seen Betty and Seth in Emmerdale for MONTHS!! I know Betty left a couple of days before Tricia died but Seth must be nearly gone a year! Will they ever come back?!!

I read some where that the actress who plays Betty has had a knee operation and she is recovering and that is why she is not in it right now and Stan Richards who plays Seth had a colla[psed lung and he is also recovering.

To be honest you have to admire actors who are gettin on a bit now, the soaps are gruelling compared to years ago when they first started in it, only two episodes per week but now Emmerdale is five, six times a week, thats gotta be exhausting for them. I dont' blame them needing breaks for six months at a time, they are quite old, especially Seth.

They only got together in their 60s - a bit late to have a son or daughter. Yes of course you are right. They dont have to be married to have a son or daughter. When I posted the bottom bit of my message did not appear

So yes Im sorry that you had to post the obvious 1 up to you

Stan Richards wants to return to Emmerdale and the bosses have said they would have him back. The issue appears to be whether he will ever be well enough to return and there seems to be some doubt about that. I will try to find the article I read about it later on and post more details here if I find it. I would be sad if Seth did not return but I think it would be unrealistic to imagine that he will.

Stan Richards had a letter printed in the Daily Mail a few weeks ago in which he said that he has every intention to return when he is well enough.

What i can't under stand is doesn't customs apply to soap stars...

Seth bought her the plane ticket and she went a few days after she found out, true.

A 12 months visitors visa allows you to stay in the country for 3 months at a time, then you got to come home and then you can go back again for another 3 months...

So why is Betty still there?

Went to see kathy, for the final time i think, they may return. Stan would be very old by now.

(The only time they ever used him in the end was for a standing joke in the woolpack having his own stool etc...and to play organ at weddings).

There was an article on teletext today saying that Stan Richards still wants to come back to Emmerdale and visited the set a few months ago. He was described as looking tired and gaunt. He has emphysema which makes it difficult for him to stand or speak for any period of time.

But the bosses want him on the payroll if they are never going to use him for story lines.

If stan is too ill too return im sure they'll give him a cameo return briefly for a couple of episodes and either he will fly back to oz to live with kathy or if they want to keep betty here. he may die on his beloved stoll or piano seat... and we can all watch a huge funeral for him.. and hopefully have some return cast members to send him off....

i agree old actors are great.... i love the edna, nd all them lot scenes there great. although seth should be with them.

I think they'll end up killing him off when they bring him back...it's the only way really, and it kinda makes sense. Although he's never involved in big stories, he's a long-running and well known character, it seems daft just to send him to live in Australia.

He'll come back and just die naturally in his bed or chair Alf Roberts style . Just a "normal" death for once, and one that'll be very sad probably and ultimately won't require a lot of scenes from Stan who could be too ill to do them.
Then the big funeral, hopefully bringing Kathy back...
