However, if Sam Aston (Chesney Brown) doesn't win the "Best Dramatic Performance by a Young Person" next year, it will be a sin!!! |

It's such a joke.
And it really makes me laugh. I saw the negative comments about EE winning stuff last year (me included), this year the annoyance from people is even worse. So where are al lthese EE votes coming from? Complete and utter farce and I'm so pleased the actors, especially the Emmerdale ones because they're so used to winning very little, seem to take it all with a pinch of salt and just treat it as a night out, nothing more. |

Yeh but think where it was held? The BBC Tv Centre. Coincidence? well when you think that EastEnders has had its worst year in its tv history, its a very big coincidence if you ask me *coughsfixcoughs*

HA HA HA! You all sound so bitter and sulky
I like watching both soaps but have always preferred Eastenders (partly due to the fact my housemate hates Corrie and wont have it on). Anyway, I defer, I like both of them and think they've both had some excellent storylines. I guess the panel just thought EE's were better than Corrie's this year. And to be honest to say it was fixed sounds a little petty ![]() Congrats to Nigel Harman though for winning sexiest male. Did he have much competition?? |

Seems very strange that it didnt even get nominated for a Bafta yet wins a clutch of soap awards. Surely it couldnt be fixed.

People only have to take a look in this forum to see how unbeleivably unpopular EE is at the moment!!! So, for it to win best soap, well what more can be said? pah!!!
Also, however much a luv Nigel Harman- how did he win best newcomer??!!! I thought he won that last year (or was that at some other awards??) The whole thing is a big joke in my opinion!! |

I completely agree! Like someone said above, this has been one of the worst years for EE so how the hell did it win Best Soap? I don't take the awards too seirously no, but for a soap to win best soap that completely DIDN'T deserve it is ridiculous!
Have any of the papers had anything to say on the matter yet? A lot of them have been slagging EE off so im expecting something... |

I suspect Eastenders does well at this sort of award programme due to it being most popular with young people, who I think are more inclined to bother voting (similar to the way the latest boyband will always be the "best group ever" at Smash Hits awards, etc). Corrie has an older fan base who can't be arsed voting! lol At the end of the day, who gives a monkeys. IMO, there are far too many awards shows anyway. I for one won't be watching it!

EastEnders 2003-2004
Den came back - not as great as it was supposed to be Janine killed Barry after marrying him - that did deserve an award, good storyline, good acting Laura died - couldn't care less Little Mo is raped - disgusting Mark died - had almost forgotten who he was The Ferreira storyline - don't get me started Phil left - about time Kelly and Zoe kissed in Scotland - just plain stupid Mix that in with pathetic acting from Vicki, pointless storylines i.e Shirley's neighbour and does it really deserve an award, really? |

Ok, this is what annoys me, you can all put Eastenders down easily but you can't come to say "Eastenders is britains favourite/most popular soap", it may not be the best in your opinion. I didn't think eastenders should of won it based on the last couple on months, but when I thought about it, over the last year it was probally overall the best.
As for people saying the vote was fixed well .... a) You say it was the mostly the younger audience that voted, well most of us wouldn't be bothered to or know anything about the awards and how to vote. b)Even if it was mostly the younger audience, it doen't matter, it's still a viewer and the more people who vote for it obviously feel the need to vote as the programme is good in thier opinion, therefore it is more popular as it got more people to vote. c)People saying it was fixed as it was (as willhung said) at the BBC studios, well that is getting very desperat to try and get an excuse for Corrie not winning. I mean the show is shown on ITV so there could be things said about that too if corrie had won, i'm very sure that you would say it was bitter if people started saying (which I wouldn't say, i would just accept that Corrie would have been the better soap) that it was fix for Corrie to win. Really it all comes down to opinion and sortof fact, it has been Voted best British soap and (in my opinion) as it was the opinion of most of Britain then it is kinda a fact. So well done Eastenders for winning the best soap over the last year, I and most of britain think you deserve it, but there will always be a few obsessed by Corronation street that are bitter. Thanks, Rich

Thanks, Rich ![]() Fair dos you have a point. I just like stirring things up is all. It doesnt' bother me which was voted the best as I watch both anyways. I do stick by my point that EE hasn't been the may west in recent months but hey if Britain says its the best, well who am I to argue? Only a bit of fun at the end of the day

It's daft to say it's the most popular because it won. That doesn't represent the view of all people who watch. Most people can't be arsed, don't know how etc etc. I won't ever say it's a fix, but I think the voting system is totally and utterly wrong. Like the National TV Awards, it's not publicised enough, the vast majority of its audience don't put their views across in voting form and when most who vote watch and prefer Eastenders, this is reflected in most of the other public awards, even when they're less deserving. Like Shane bloody Richie. I think they should all be panel voted, for reasons I've explained elsewhere around here. I'm not even going to try and use the "young audience" card (although I believe that has some impact), but all the Kat, Alfie and Dennis fans come out in force and often vote because they like the character (as opposed to the acting) or fancy them and all this collective mass loving that goes on manages to topple anyone voting for Corrie, or even Emmerdale. Fair play for using the tiny amount of people who vote in this to their advantage I suppose. But that doesn't make it right, and it certainly doesn't make it the most popular in the country. And especially not the best. So I say make it panel voted entirely, or make the voting much more widespread, in all TV mags, papers and TV shows. Hell, put the number down to vote every day after each soap has finished so it's still fresh in the fans' minds and they can vote for their favourite. Why do they never do that? Better yet, have people come round to everyones house with forms and insist you vote, and if you do you err, win something lol. But I'd sooner it be panel voted, I think. Like the Oscars, which is another ceremony that would be daft if the public voted - especially when a lot of people would have seen one film/actor much more than certain others nominated, so would be unfair from the start. If the public could vote in that, it'd be a farce - much like the Soap Awards. |

Some people just like to think that Eastenders is bad, because they love Coronation Street so much!
Bad press doesnt always reflect the publics opinion. The times and The Sun for example both owned by Rupert Murdoch who hates the BBC and has shares in ITV for Gods sake!! Lets face facts... Why do they put the content that 'Eastenders is bad' in newspapers and press? Obviously people are interested in it and probably sell more copies! Whatever people say I still dont think younger people would find it fashionable to talk about Coro or say it is their favourite! Who blames them!? |
