It was suggested when I was reading my Worst story thread that maybe a bit of positivity was needed and a Best Story Thread should be done. So to balance things up, let's discuss what you think was your favourite Who story.

I personally don't have an overall one. From the Classic Series I go for Logopolis simply because it's the first proper story I watched, it introduced my favourite Doctor at the end and it is also one of my favourite regenerations as well. From the New Series it has to Army of Ghosts/Doomsday. Daleks and Cybermen in the same story and Rose's amazing departure.

Doesn't mean you have to choose two, just my opinion. Let's see how often Love and Monsters gets a mention this time round! Have Fun!

Well, for me the two best Doctor Who stories ever written are The Mind Robber and Blink. If I can extend it to a top five (and include stories from mediums other than TV) I'd also include Warrior's Gate, The Horror of Fang Rock and the audio adventure The Chimes of Midnight.

'The Caves Of Androzani' is my favourite.

Was a brilliant send off story for Peter Davison that didn't get bogged down in sentiment. Was a brilliant story.

I'll go with The Seeds of Doom today. Great direction, great acting and a great Gay Agenda Baddie in Harrison Chase. Great music, too.

Nu Who:-

Blink

Perfection - as is Sally Sparrow.

Nu Who (excluding Doctor-lite):-

The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances

Near perfection - the only thing that would have made it better was if Sally Sparrow had been the Doctor's sidekick instead of Rose Tyler! Actually, that's unfair, I quite liked Rose in Series 1, I didn't start disliking her until Series 2.

Classic Who:-

City of Death

Yes, City of Death was very silly, but it was a Douglas Adams type silliness, which is mainly what I love about it. I also like the great rapport in this story between the Fourth Doctor and Romana (although as the soon to be married Tom Baker and Lalla Ward were very much enamoured of each other at the time that great rapport is quite understandable). My feelings about City of Death are perfectly summed up by Paul Cornell, Keith Topping and Martin Day in the 1995 Doctor Who Discontinuity Guide:-

"Exquisite .. Absolutely exquisite. Witty, happy, plotted so hard that you can sing it, this is as gorgeous as 'This Old Heart of Mine' sung by the Isley Brothers outside your window on a spring morning while Emma Thompson gently massages your feet with aromatic oils. It's a pity that the rest of Doctor Who exists to make this story part of the bigger continuity, because it deserves to stand alone. Just when you think it can't get any better, John bloody Cleese appears."

What pretentious claptrap! (referring to the Cornell, etc quote, not the post itself!)

(Re Sally Sparrow, she was OK, but the actress is very plain looking)

Each to his own, after all, one's man's fish is another man's poisson!

Oh, I do love coming out with pretentious claptrap!

Pyramids of Mars is my favourite.

Victory of the Daleks might replace it if my hopes are confirmed later this week

I hated City of Death. I thought it was utter tripe.

Did you see my edit - I didn't mean the claptrap was from you, I meant the quote was!

Not my all time favourite, but one of them. However, I feel a bit hypocritcial saying that as I've been slagging off The Beast Below all week for its plot inconsitencies and PoM is full of plot holes!

But it has atmosphere and it's enjoyable, and I remember being scared of it when I was young, and I often borrowed the book from the library.

It's got to be Empty Child/The Doctor Dances for me.

Sorry, misread your post. Yes Cornell etc's opinion of City of Death was very pretentious, but I still like it.

I thought quite the opposite! A real natural beauty IMO without the need for that OTT make-up and fancy hair-styles that is considered the 'standard'.

'Blink' is one of my favourites too, rather Sapphire & Steel-esque which is no bad thing.

I've been watching Doctor Who since I was about 6 but my memory is not really specific enough to pick out a favourite from the original Who. I haven't seen most of them since transmission though.

Probably "Carnival of Monsters", "Pyramids
of Mars" and "Caves of Androzani". "Survival" is pretty
good as well-no wonder the writer went on to work
in films.

Nu-Series: probably "Dalek" and "Empty Child/Doctor Dances".

Because it's too hard to decide on one and because I am incredibly greedy, these are my favourite Dr Who stories from each Doctor:

1st - The War Machines
2nd - The Abominable Snowmen
3rd - The Daemons
4th - Pyramids of Mars, Deadly Assassin, Talons of Weng-Chiang, Horror of Fang Rock, Stones of Blood, City of Death, Warriors Gate and Logopolis
5th - Enlightenment
6th - Mark of The Rani
7th - Ghost Light

I don't really have any favourite from the new series.

If I had to choose my fave overall it would be Talons of Weng Chiang.

I have only watched New Who, having vague memories of Cybermen emerging from something in several rows.

I wouldn't like to pick a favourite, because if you asked me again a week later I'd have changed my mind.

If I absolutely had to watch an episode right now, I'd pick..... *prepares self*.... Last of the Timelords. I liked it. Sue me.

I used to watch the show as a child (Jon Pertwee era), but cannot remember any specific stories - just a vague sense of terror and I waited to come out from behind the sofa. Since the series has been brought back, my favourite is The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances, because I found them terribly moving. Together they are better written and more imaginative than many movies with much larger budgets. I also thought Blink was particularly clever and scary, but I've enjoyed lots of them.

Would if I could! LOTT would be near the top in my all time worst list!

Another story I like from the New Series is Midnight. I've mentioned on another thread that I thought the acting was amazing in this episode because of the actors having to keep in sync with each other, but it's claustrophobic feel and the fact it was virtually filmed on one set shows you don't always need big special effects and flying Daleks etc to make a good show. This was a completely different type of story to most in the New Series and is very reminscent of some Troughton stories. I remember after watching Midnight thinking 'Wow!'
