1st Doctor - One of the historicals, changes every day. I'll say The Romans.

2nd Doctor - I'll say The War Games this week.

3rd Doctor - Either Inferno or Carnival Of Monsters. I'll say Inferno because that is a story which works best with Pertwee's doctor. Monsters could have worked better with other Doctor's.

4th Doctor - Talons Of Weng Chiang - the greatest of all.

5th Doctor - Haven't seen it for a while but Snakedance I think.

6th Doctor - Vengance On Varos.

7th Doctor - Curse Of Fenric

9th Doctor - Empty Child/Doctor Dances

10th Doctor - Turn Left - the best New Who episode.

1st Doctor - The Daleks/edge of destruction.

2nd Doctor - the brilliant Tomb of the Cybermen

3rd Doctor - Inferno, Mind of Evil snapping on its heels

4th Doctor - The Deadly Assassin

5th Doctor - Caves of Androzani.

6th Doctor - Revelation of the Daleks.

7th Doctor - Survival being the best of a very bad lot

9th Doctor - Empty Child/Doctor Dances

10th Doctor - Human Nature/Family of blood

I've not seen all of classic who by a long shot, but I'll nominate "Terror of the Autons" cos
- The Autons scared the bejesus out of me as a child
- It introduced the original & best Master!
- It had deadly daffodils, a killer sofa and the devil doll
- the only thing likely to scare me more than Autons was Autons dressed as clowns
- it upset Mary Whitehouse

From modern Who I really like the sequence Human nature/Family of blood, Blink, Utopia.

Edge of Destruction for me too. Love the way the crew turn on each other. Blueprint for Midnight?

Favourite overall is the Brain of Morbius.

My favourite Dr Who story of all is Blink. Among New Who stories, my other real stand-outs would be The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit and Midnight.

In the classic series, there's several contenders - The Ark In Space, Genesis of the Daleks, Pyramids of Mars, The Robots of Death, The Talons of Weng-Chiang, Full Circle and Kinda. I think Pyramids of Mars is probably my favourite of all, but really they're all serious contenders for best ever.

Personally I think Genesis of the Daleks is one of the finest pieces of Science Fiction, let alone Doctor Who, ever written. I just don't see any way it could have been any better.

Is it just me or are we forever seeing a thread with this same question. It's like we are all demented and asking each other the same question over and over...

oh well.... Genesis of the Daleks - hands down for me. Great title, great story. Menacing, moody and the best ever lighting of an episode... the purple skys as a backdrop and the Daleks roming around are a touch of genius...

I started this thread because I started the worst story thread and as I mentioned in my OP it was suggested we do a best story thread so I did. I am recently new to this forum, I was sure it probably had been done before but considering the response to it, it seems people are quite happy to give their opinion, maybe for the first time like me, or maybe again for the umpteenth time like your good self!
