Prawn Coleslaw
Anyone remember tubs of prawn coleslaw from supermarkets?
Can't seem to get it anymore. Wonder what happened? Used to like it a lot as a child. Miss it. Not sure sticking some little prawns in normal coleslaw would evoke the same flavour. |

You'd need to use prawn cocktail/marie rose sauce instead of just mayo as the coleslaw dressing. If you really wanted to try doctoring a tub of bought coleslaw, mix together two tablespoons of tomato ketchup, a dash of Worcester sauce (or use Lea & Perrins ketchup), half a teaspoon of horseradish sauce and a dash of lemon juice. Stir this into a large tub of coleslaw with the prawns.
Alternatively, if you wanted to make your own prawn coleslaw from scratch, add two tablespoons of mayo to the above sauce and stir through your shredded white cabbage, onions and carrot together with the cooked, peeled prawns. Oh, I remember it by the way. When I was a student my staple diet was jacket potato filled with cheese and prawn coleslaw. The grated cheese had to go in first so it melted into the flesh of the potato and got mixed together with it, then fill with as much prawn coleslaw as you could cram in. It was lush, and it's funny really because the idea of normal coleslaw in a jacket spud does nothing for me. |

Thanks Norbitonite!
Glad I'm not the only one who remembers and liked it. Wonder why they discontinued it? Googling it brings up a case of food poisoning from one supermarket chain so maybe that's the reason. Thanks for the recipe, though if I'm honest I doubt I will go to the trouble unless I really get a craving! |

I never liked the thought of prawn and cabbage as a combination - made me squirm!

If there's no cabbage, then it's not prawn coleslaw.

Asda used to sell it years ago but not looked in there for years so no idea if they still do or not. I don't like raw onion so I don't like normal coleslaw. The prawn one from Asda didn't have onion in it so I loved it.
