Just seen this over on Gallifrey Base. At an interview with the Moff at the New York screening yesterday , he had this to say
A very important aspect of the Doctor’s own past will finally be dealt with this season as Newsarama learned exclusively – The Doctor’s regeneration limit. "It’s been addressed in a very, very cheeky way by an old friend of mine and I’m not going to tell you any more about that," said Moffat, telling us to "wait and see."

Suggestion on GB that the old friend Moff is referring to is Simon Nye. Who wrote the upcoming episode where The Doctor is seperated from the Tardis for a while and has to lead an everyday life-complete with James Corden as a mate!

I've not read the link, but surely we already know his regeneration limit don't we? Or does this spell the first time it's said in the Nu Who? I think given the context of the episode it could be something along the lines of:

DOCTOR: I have twelve regenerations, so thirteen lives, if you will.
CORDEN: Thirteen lives?! That's a football squad and two subs!

Simon Nye's episode is Ep7 "Amy's Choice" not the James Corden lodger one (that's by Gareth Roberts).

Surely what they're talking about is not just a mention of the regeneration limit, but rather an explicit statement that the Doctor is not going to die after his 13th life, and will carry on into number 14 and beyond.

But then that's not really a longstanding question is it? I'm expecting the Doctor to turn into the Pratt/Beevers Master when he's used up his thirteen lives!

My mistake sorry , just assumed the blokey nature of Nye writing Men Beaving Badly would've transferred across to that story.

Of course it's a longstanding question! People have been wondering what's going to happen and how they'll get round it.

James Corden. Yuck.

If it's 'cheeky', then surely it's just a matter of saying that there never was a limit?

Do you think any of the kids who have started with the modern series are aware of it though?

Somehow I think not...

But what does that matter? There have been countless references to the old series over the last five years which are accepted by kids as brand new information. This would just be another one.

Anyway, it's not a question of whether they're going to address the regeneration limit or not. They are. That's what Moffat is talking about in the interview in the OP.

It'll probably be a quote along the lines of "13 bodies - unlucky for some!"

Now that's a cheeky statement. Considering something like that would cause meltdown on Gallifrey Base!

In that case, it'll be: "There used to be a limit, but now that the Timelords are dead... "

It doesn't actually say how they'll address it. We're assuming here that they'll say what happens after, or that it no longer applies, but they could just as surely mention the regeneration limit in a cheeky fashion whilst providing no further answers. I can't see Moffat robbing the drama of what will happen at the 'final' regeneration however many years down the line in a casual cheeky way in a mid-season episode he isn't even writing! Then again, maybe he doesn't care about the Thirteenth Doctor's final moments...

Not only that but a Roberts script so it'll be "Ooer Missus"-a-go-go.

But Mr Moffats quote says "A very important aspect of the Doctor’s own past will finally be dealt with this season..."

Whereas the regeneration issue relates to hid future does it not?

The article says it's something from the past, Moffat says it's the regeneration limit.

Maybe it's something fanw*nky, like "Is the Doctor
going to turn into the Valeyard/Merlin at end of his
regen cycle?"

I'd be glad if that was resolved. To Robert Holmes in 1976, 13 Doctors seemed a very long way away and to be fair, the thirteen Doctor's death probably would be beyond 2020 as it stands now. What was a plot device in Deadly Assassin is now an ongoing worry.

Lancing that boil, even with technobabble, would stop a few sad fans (like me) worrying on sleepless nights.

Watching the Prime Minister debate at the moment.

It really needs Mr Saxon!

I guess his regeneration limit was lifted in the Time War or something (from what I understand of the lore)

It'd really make sense from an "army fighting a war" point of view if they had pretty much immortal soldiers (yes yes, I know there are loopholes )

Though it'd also make sense that the Daleks would try to develop weapons that prevented regeneration.
But since the Doctor was hit by one and regenerated in The Stolen Earth then I guess they didn't quite manage that.

Or the fact that the beam only glanced him meant it didn't quite have the intended effect

What do you think the reaction would be on this forum if the answer to 'how does he get more lives' turned out to be
Spoiler
he doesn't?

I know where there's a (rather too effective) story about that, shall I link to it?
I'm kidding. Yes I do like to stir it.

Didn't the Master get offered more regenerations by the Time Lords in exchange for doing something for them?

So the Doctor could have had the same thing during the Time War.

Yes, in The Five Doctors.
