Audio Adventures with The Telegraph
11's Bow Tie
16-04-2010
The Telegraph is to give away a series of Doctor Who Audio adventures starting this weekend with an early release of Matt Smith reading a brand new adventure for the Eleventh Doctor, The Runaway Train.

The news comes from Doctor Who author Peter Anghelides, whose own story, Pest Control, featuring the Tenth Doctor and read by David Tennant, will be the second story released on Sunday 24th and Monday 25th April 2010.

The promotion is part of a deal with BBC Audiobooks. Commissioning Editor Michael Stevens says
It’s a thrilling collection of unique original audio stories, rarely-heard radio adventures and classic TV soundtracks, featuring the voices of much-loved Doctors, companions and monsters – including the brand new current Doctor, Matt Smith.

Other stories included are Slipback the Colin Baker story originaly heard on BBC Radio 4 in 1985, Genesis of the Daleks and Exploration Earth featuring Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen, and finally Mission to the Unknown, the novelization of the 1965 story, which was the one Doctor Who television episode not to feature the Doctor or any of his Companions.

Doesn't look like it's this weekend from the cover of Sat's edition on the Sky News site. The link says "they’re including my audio Pest Control (read by David Tennant) on Sunday 25th and Monday 26th April. Before that, readers will be able to get new Doctor Matt Smith reading The Runaway Train, which is a bit of a scoop. After Pest Control, the Collection will contain Slipback "

So I'm assuming that it will start on 24th April (The Runaway Train).

I got Saturday's and Sunday's CDs and bought the paper today to see how much it would be to send for the rest (Nearest WHS is 7 miles away). £12.99! Think I'll give them a miss at that price for "freebies" and that doesn't include buying the Telegraph @ £5 for 5 days. Now where can I get Part 2 of Pest Control?

I only bought it on Saturday - is the CD any good? I've not listened to it yet.

Wait until next week and you'll find the entire collection being flogged on eBay. That's how I got all those DVDs from The Sun a few years ago.

not bothered with them, when you factor in 2.10 each way every day to the nearest Whsmith then the price of the paper everyday on top of that, your talking nearly 30 quid just for free CDs

Listened to Matt's story, it's certainly good Dr Who, the setting and other characters give it more originality than the storyline...get alien tech away from the confederate army before it explodes.
You have to hear Matt's american accent though, it's worse than Phillip Glenister's in Demons, but in a very enjoyable way.
Unfortunately he didn't do a scottish one for Amy.

I got my sister to buy me the Matt Smith story and she's sending it over the Channel soon. Not fussed about the others (although I had to beg her to buy the Tory Telegraph).

Popped into WHsmith this morning and asked the nice lady if they had the audiobooks.

She said she had, so I asked if I had to buy the Telegraph. She said not to worry and gave me all of them up to today's and, weirdly, Thursday's (Abridged version of Genesis read by TB).

I am officially chuffed. Around five hours of Who on my Ipod to ease my daily commute.
