The aqueduct in Emmerdale
SULLA

The opening credits show a very large canal aqueduct. I am quite sure that it is no where near to the Emmerdale site but where is it and what is it called. Can anyone help please

i know which one you are talking about. I believe that the set was recently moved (in the past year or so) and the credits are now pretty old. Apart from that, they tend to use the surrounding areas rather than just the village of "Emmerdale" in the opening credits. You might find further info at www.emmerdale.org

Yes they do use the surrounding area then close in on the village. I'm sure those in Emmerdale wouldn't have access to it, less they travelled.

The soap used to be filmed in Esholt village in Bradford but as of 1996 they moved to a purpose built set at Harewood house estate in Leeds, the 2 sites are only a few miles apart thats why everything else remained the same like Home Farm.

Most of the other buildings like Home Farm, Sugdens, Dingles, King's, Old Church and Holiday Village are all located very close to the new village, and the scenes on the credits are surrounding countryside shots that are around the Otley, Pool and Harrogate area.

The viaduct is very close to the village and is on the A658 near Castley, have a look at the multimap link.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your time and trouble but the opening sequence definitely shows an canal aquaduct not a train viaduct.

The viaduct looks very simular to the one between Harrogate and Pannal too... maybe built by the same company...etc etc but it has been many years since I walked along it as a lad....

"The soap used to be filmed in Esholt village in Bradford but as of 1996"

No the new set was used from 1999, remember recently on Granada Plus the change in the village.

I think that one scene was filmed on the aquaduct, I think Biff was going to jump from it but Andy who had only just entered the soap stopped him.
