Review I did for Register Hardware here:
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2010/02...0s_hd_freesat/ That was before the iPlayer update, which unfortunately was broadcast when I had something else plugged into my dish. Nigel. |

Hi,
As already mentioned in a different post I decided to buy a Sagem Freesat box after an impressive presentation at the Ideal Home Show in London a few weeks ago: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...1#post39603758 I'm a bit in a hurry at the moment so just a quick summary ![]() Pros: - quick and easy setup (<5 minutes from opening the box to watching the first channel!) - brilliant picture and sound quality (SD is great, HD blew me away!) - personalised recording folders (we created "kids" folder for our two youngsters, an "adult" folder for us (programmes inside locked by pin) and various other folders to avoid the formerly chaotic recording list (football, music, documentaries etc) - personalised channel lists (again, for the kids) - similar function and layout to their Freeview DTR that I'm used to (e.g. "pause" function of live TV) - BBC iPlayer! - possible to record two different channels at the same time - value for money Cons: - needs a dish (but I guess so do all Freesat units) - Can't use USB port for media files etc. - I'm sure I read somewhere that Sagem were claiming that a new software update will sort this out but I can't remember where! - it could be easier to "lock" recordings. Basically I love the new box and I am glad that I went for this one in the end. ![]() I hope that answers your question! |

If my experience of their freeview pvrs is anything to go by I would avoid anything Sagem.

Sorry Steve, but I think that's quite a sweeping statement and not really related to the Freesat discussion...

Your contribution would be more helpful if you could describe your adverse "experience" so that others can assess its potential relevance.
* Fails to Record scheduled progs * Records but then fails to play * Crashes during use * Crashes on standby [resulting in failed scheduled recordings] * Lack of speedy support from Sagem or any decent telephone support * Software updates issued but still doesnt resolve above problems I would never buy anything Sagem again after this...having said that I had the same experience with Humax too....so go figure! My Sky box has been ultra reliable....only one crash since I've had it...though its not the fastest menu system on the planet |

No its not....unless you are suggesting they give a totally different level of support to Freesat than they do to PVR owners, or that they write much better embedded software for freesat than they do for Freeview PVRs??? ![]() Ultimately I dont think thats possible is it? |
