Amy Pond will remain with the doctor for the 2nd series.

She will be the first companion since Billie Piper to do 2 Series.

I did read it in a report but i can't find a link.

Strange, because usually each series we get either a new Doctor or new assistant.

Clearly Moffet is trying to build a good partnership between the two, and keep Doctor Who nice and stable.

It will be nice to have a bit of stability. Back in the day they didn't change the cast every single season.

It's true though isn't it? Amy will be the only companion to stay for two series since the show was brought back in 2005.

Not by choice. Freema was written out by RTD, she didn't quit. With Catherine it was bizarre, they presumed she'd be too busy to even think about committing to further episodes but she said in an interview that she actually would have been happy to stay and wasn't even asked. Strange.

Very happy Amy is staying, I think we've hit the first true winning combo since Nine/Rose. Ten/Rose was over the top, Ten/Martha took too long to hit its stride, and Ten/Donna started to get a bit grating with their chumminess (but I'm still a Donna fan ).

I would've like Martha for another season as I think she really hit her stride towards the end... Very glad if we have a companion for more than 13 episodes...

Optimistically, I'd hope they bring in another full-time companion alongside Amy for the second series - it would keep the show fresh and allow a new dynamic to be explored, which we saw a little of in Dalek/The Long Game and The Doctor Dances/Boom Town; all brilliant episodes.

I am very happy about that - I really like her

well if the next assistant is black we can say, oh she will the 1st black actress since Freema.

I really dont think that basic information is required, its not really going to turn up in a doctor who quiz is it.

"hello doctor, its martha, and im bringing you back to earth" (cringe, shiver)

Thank god they did. The Tate worm was awful.

Good news about Amy - this is the best Doctor/companion pairing since Lalla and Tom.

I like the pairing so its good news for me. Plus I think its nice to get some continuity. I don't really see why, as long as the actors are wanting to stay, that the Doctor can't keep the same companion for the whole of his run. They could add "extra" companions now and then for a few eps to make it interesting, but if Matt does, say, 3 series, why shouldnt Amy Pond be the companion for the whole time?

I wish that Catherine had done more than one season, but only with Tennant as the Doctor. I loved Donna as a character but I don't think she and Matt Smith's Doctor would have worked very well.

I was glad to see the back of Freema, I thought she was a poor companion personally - not Freema's fault really, but the whole "in love with the Doctor" thing was just too ridiculous for words, and the Martha character was WAY to moany groany.

As for Billie Piper, well. I quite liked Rose as a character but towards the end she got WAY too annoying. I wouldnt have minded seeing the back of her when Eccleston changed to Tennant.

Isn't it strange how peoples opinions differ regarding the various companions. For example when it was announced that Catherine Tait was returniung for a full series as Donna there was almost a collective groan in fandom. then when she actually appeared most (but not all) people seemed to change their minds and grew to enjoy both the character and actress. I think the main problem with Martha was having her fall instantly in love with The Doctor. It was way too soon after the romance with Rose. I think on the whole people are being too unkind to Freema, after all she could only act on what was written for her and I for one quite liked her. It's too soon to decide on the Amy character but so far Karen and Matt are the best things in the latest version of Who. Still hate the new theme though !

I think the tongue scene sums up my love for these two.

No she wouldn't. Otherwise she'd have been in all of the specials (and she wasn't in three of them). She was only on a one year contract.
